The incident involved "exponents of the Palermo bourgeoisie", say several newspapers including the Rai, which you are travel by boat from a club on the coast to the islet, known to be an important landing place for nesting birds. The Italian Bird Protection League (LIPU), which manages the reserve, immediately alerted the police.Coast Guard, Financial Police and Carabinieri intervened promptly, interrupting the party and dancing and identifying the participants.
The director of the reserve managed by Lipu, Vincenzo Di Dio, described a desolate scene:“A carpet of butts, plastic cups, plastic and glass bottles, and stacked wood to make a bonfire."A sign reading “Save the planet” found among the rubbish adds a note of bitter irony to the situation.“We can no longer afford, in the twenty-first century, in the heart of the environmental crisis, a protected area in the middle of the nesting phase to be invaded,” added the general director of the Italian Bird Protection League, Danilo Selvaggi.
Illegal party, investigations begin
The participants have been identified and investigations are underway to assess their positions.Among them, two twin doctors stand out, known for organizing parties in suggestive places. This year they had chosen the Isola delle Femmine, an area where visits are suspended from March 1st to June 30th to protect nesting species.
Maurizio Giglio, the DJ of the evening, former head of the maritime office of Isola delle Femmine now retired, stated that it was not a party, but rather an authorized video clip by the owner of the islet, the Marquise Paola Pilo Bacci.“There was no desire to damage the island,” said Giglio, adding that the project aimed to enhance the beauty of the island through the four natural elements:water, air, earth and fire. The DJ clarified that he was not among the organizers of the event.
