Latex paint is a water-based paint.It can be diluted with water unlike oil paints which can only be diluted with oil based thinners.Latex paint is thicker than oil paint, so it must be thinned to use with spray guns or dispensers that are used to distribute a thin layer of paint on the surface.Diluting paint requires the right care and maintenance to achieve the desired consistency.This article helps you do that.

Advice
- Wash the nozzle or brush immediately after you're done.You can wash them easily with soap and water, however they dry quickly and therefore it will be more difficult to clean them later if you have not done so before.
- If you want to increase the life of your paint for exterior projects, you can use a commercial thinner with a strength-enhancing agent.It is best to buy a thinner from the same brand as the paint as these have already been tested together.
- Apply more than one coat of latex paint to improve adhesion.
