27 Italian municipalities and emergency room accesses were monitored to keep the effects on the health of the population under control

ROME – The temperatures of around thirty cities monitored with a daily bulletin on heat waves.Access to the emergency room is also under scrutiny... these are some of the initiatives implemented since May 20th against heat waves. The Minister of Health illustrated them, Orazio Schillaci, today on the occasion of the XXIII edition of the event 'Cheers North' entitled 'Research is true sustainability', underway in Milan at the Lombardy Palace.

"From the May 20th last year is active national system for preventing the health effects of heat waves and is aimed in particular at vulnerable subjects, I am thinking of the elderly, the chronically ill, children and pregnant women", recalled the Minister of Health, when asked on the topic.“The program - continued Schillaci - includes (among others, ed.) thedaily preparation of a bulletin on heat waves which includes 27 Italian municipalities and one surveillance of access to the emergency room to promptly monitor the effects of heat on the health of the population".

To avoid the risks linked to heat stroke, Schillaci continued, the following rules remain valid 10 rules indicated last year by the ministry, including those of "drinking a lot and avoiding going out during the hours when the temperature is highest" to also avoid dehydration. The objective is to "reduce mortality among the over 65s this year too", after the good result obtained last summer "thanks to the awareness and information campaigns" of the ministry. On the subject, Schillaci finally concluded, we must keep "our guard high".
