PALERMO – The Department of Civil Protection ordered the passage of alert for the Stromboli volcano on the evening of June 24th from yellow to orange level.A decision taken, explains a note from the INGV, “given the increase in volcanic tremor and the increase in the emission of fragments of fluid lava (spattering) from the northernmost vent (N1) of the volcano's crater terrace. This phenomenon was followed by a series of lava overflows along the upper part of the Sciara del Fuoco, causing an intense rolling of blocks up to the coastline."
The phenomenon, again the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, "was accompanied by a large deformation of the upper portion of the Sciara del Fuoco, detected by the 'GBINSAR' measures conducted by the Center for Civil Protection of the University of Florence (UNIFI-CPC).These measurements indicate the possibility of collapses of large volumes of rock along the Sciara del Fuoco."Raising the alert determines the strengthening of the volcano monitoring system and the information connection between the scientific community and the other components and operational structures of the National Civil Protection Service.
