MILAN - Allow teachers of schools of all levels to discover the Dolomite territory, with its landscapes, its protected areas and the stories of the populations that inhabit it, told by walking on the paths and frequenting the refuges. This is what is proposed national training course for teachers “Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site.A tale of landscapes, men, rocks”, which the Italian Alpine Club (through the Cai-Scuola working group and the SAT school and training commission) is organizing from 4 to 8 September in the Primiero Valley, in Trentino.
TEACHERS AT 2,500 METERS ALTITUDE
50 teachers from 15 regions will arrive in Primiero and San Martino di Castrozza to participate in a training initiative focused on frequenting the paths and welcoming people at high altitude. The program also includes an overnight stay in the Rosetta Pedrotti Refuge, in the Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino Natural Park (2,581 meters above sea level, owned by Sat), which will give participants an immersive experience at altitude with the sharing of inspired rules and spaces to sobriety. The course, which is part of the AVSI Foundation's "Energy - Acting at school for the environment" project, also includes an in-depth reflection on the consequences of climate change.
UPDATE AND TRAINING FOR TEACHERS OF ALL ORDERS AND GRADES
“In this period of great disturbances and challenges, CAI's attention to young people and schools is constant. In this sense, our memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Education and Merit is decisive, thanks to which we can realize one of our fundamental statutory objectives, organizing updating and training activities aimed at teachers of the various orders and students on the protection of the environmental, cultural and social heritage of the mountain territories and the history of the populations who live there", says Giacomo Benedetti, general vice president of the Italian Alpine Club with responsibility for the Cai-Scuola project.
The paths and refuges "are an immense material and immaterial heritage, of great ethical, environmental, economic and symbolic value, in continuous evolution. The Cai-Scuola courses for teachers and educational trips with students promote knowledge and respect and broaden the area of interest of those who frequent the mountains, reducing overcrowding in the most well-known areas. The possibility of booking overnight stays in refuges online is a new CAI tool that facilitates the organization of multi-day excursions", adds Benedetti.
The paths and refuges are identifying elements of the mountain and of the CAI, with its Sections that guarantee maintenance and management of these two important mountain infrastructures. In Trentino, Sat manages 35 refuges and 15 bivouacs and takes care of the maintenance of approximately 6,000 kilometers of paths.
An articulated succession of excursions is planned for the students with activities supported by reports, documents, materials, environmental proposals and future perspectives, which will culminate with an overnight stay in the Rosetta Pedrotti Refuge. All in the name of a cultural and environmental commitment in line with the current needs for adaptation and mitigation of the climate crisis, attentive to the objectives of the 2030 Agenda, to be reported as good practices in the schools of origin.Cristian Ferrari, president of Sat, and Elia Perini, president of the School and Training Commission of Sat, highlight how the course follows a positive and constructive commitment that looks to the future, with a vision of culture in fragile environments such as the mountains, to be brought closer on the way, knowing and protecting.“Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site.A tale of landscapes, men, rocks" is organized in collaboration with the Unesco Dolomites Foundation, the Paneveggio and Pale di San Martino Natural Park, the Municipality of Primiero and San Martino di Castrozza, the Community of Valle del Primiero and Apt Primiero.
