Killing Time by Entertaining Yourself

  1. Close your eyes and dream while awake. It is a technique relaxation which high school teenagers have some expertise in, especially in math or history lessons, but many adults have forgotten how to do it.They are too tense, busy or in a hurry to take time to clear their minds from the messiness of life, which sometimes flows with too much vigor.Reclaim your youthful spirit and daydream.
    • Worrying doesn't count as daydreaming. If you find yourself sitting around planning how your life should go, you're not doing it right. Some people are simply not daydreamers; If you're one of them, don't force it.There are tons of other tips that can inspire you on this page.
  2. Have a picnic.Play Frisbee.Try flying a kite.Sometimes the simplest things are the most satisfying, and the most surprisingly fun.Even a walk is healthy and fun!
    • If you don't have a lot of time to kill, just take a walk around your neighborhood.Make the effort to observe:How many things can you see that have never been noticed before?Think about all your senses:What do you hear, see, smell, touch or taste?
  3. Next time you're with a group of people killing time, take note of how many of them pull out their phones. You definitely won't need a calculator.Even those who know each other will have their cell phones in hand and heads bowed, playing Candy Crush or Words with Friends or just pretending to text a person they obviously prefer to talk to.We have become a society that no longer allows itself to be involved in direct contact. Hang in there, you can do it!
    • Or, give in too and take photos of people staring at their phones. It's hard to be the only one with hands without a light-up piece of plastic, right? If you take photos of others, you will still do something original.
  4. Whoever.Every time someone asks you to do something, you say, "Can I get you some chips, too?"Annoying to others, funny to you.Annoying people is hilarious.Try it!Prepare pranks that others won't easily forget!
    • Be careful when opting for this method.Staring at people until they become visibly uncomfortable is fun, but it can cause an argument.Holding your finger two inches away from someone's face while saying "I'm not touching you!" It's fun, but risky when done with strangers.Choose your battles.
    • You don't necessarily have to do it in person. You could always annoy people online or act like a troll. You will entertain even bored people like you, who will thank you.
  5. If you've been listening to the same 15-song playlist on your iPod nano since 2004, it's time for a change.Discovering new music is easier than before.Sites like Noisetrade.com [1] they offer free downloads of emerging artists, all with a simple click. And being hipper than your friends is always satisfying.
    • You already use Spotify and Pandora, right?Well. Now you just have to make the effort to get out of your comfort zone. There are gems just waiting to be found by you.Ask your friends for ideas or search for artists similar to those you already like online.
  6. Rubik's Cube!Even if you're not the best, it's fun to try.And then it can be an excuse to strike up a conversation with someone.Sure, the conversation might just consist of phrases like “Oh, hey!Rubik's Cube!I can finish it before you!", but it's still a dialogue.
    • Don't cheat or look for answers.Otherwise, you'll be done right away and still have time to kill. But, if you really have to...better read the article How to Solve the Rubik's Cube with the Layered Method on wikiHow.
    • If you are with a friend, there is a game called "Rubik's Race" that you could play.
  7. 7
Do an eye test. Hold a finger 10cm away from your nose and place a stationary object one meter away.Force your eyes onto the object by closing them one at a time. The strongest eye is the one with which the finger does not move to the side when you close them.
    • You can go online looking for eye tests or optical illusions. You'll be surprised by how many there are and how intriguing they are.

Killing Time by Acquiring Knowledge

  1. Read a book. This should be a constant point of reference when you are bored.Reading a lot represents a quality that will repay you many times a day.If you expect a long wait, bring along a magazine or classic book and rediscover this often ignored hobby.
    • Of course, the Kindle is also valid, but since you spend all this time in front of a screen, why not dust off a good old book, which by the way will have the same irresistible scent as a bookshelf?
  2. It happens that some people are not in the right state of mind to read a book.Others didn't know they would find themselves in temporal limbo and didn't think about putting a book in their bag.If this happens to you, hop online (like you just did to find this article!) and read someone's blog. You will probably laugh, cry or make fun of the author in your head for a long time.In any case, you will not be bored.
    • If you don't know where to find a good blog, you have no excuse.Large publications, such as Time Magazine, annually provide a list of the best blogs [2] .There are also awards for blog writers (called Bloggies) [3] !There's a world out there that you're probably missing!
  3. Ouch, talking, what a crazy idea, right? So archaic and banal.Do you remember the last time you went to Starbucks and you actually spoke with anyone, other than muttering “Coffee and a muffin” to the hipster-looking barista? After wondering how he justified his choice of employment to his hipster friends, you sat down and spent three whole hours surfing the internet.Don't do it again. The people around you are much more interesting than those Angry Birds.
    • Trying might be bizarre, especially if you don't do it right. And, unless you're English, a quick “Wow, it's hot today” might result in receiving a few quizzical looks. However, the quirk never killed anyone. If you're lucky enough to find a person who doesn't stare at their phone, give them a chance.Especially if she's cute!
  4. Study! Wow, how strange! You didn't come to this page for some so-obvious-that-they-aren't-obvious ideas, did you?But we're not referring to the study that consists of recovering that 2005 textbook that you never really opened in class but the bookstore would never want it back, we're referring to something much more compelling, the internet.
    • Sites like Memrise, Academic Earth, Coursera, and Khan Academy make studying and learning fun.Choose a topic, you will certainly learn something new. With videos and graphics, even the most reluctant people will be happy to learn about something.
  5. You're already on wikiHow, right? Then you might find out how How to Improve Your IQ, How to Get Rid of Termites or How to Make a Diorama.Think of all the things you can't do yet!And then do them!
    • YouTube is also good, but you might get distracted by Miley Cyrus videos and that's risky.Opt for VideoJug or HowCast to avoid temptation.

Killing Time with Creativity

  1. You write. You could draft your own by hand diary or a message or letter to a friend.A small diary or notebook doesn't take up much space in your purse, diary, or even a jacket pocket. With emails and text messages, handwritten notes and letters have become special to many people.
    • You don't have to be long-winded if you don't feel like it.Tell your friend that you find him amazing and draw him in the form of a ninja who is conquering the whole world:the image will not only lift his spirits, but he will also find your effort, despite your poor artistic skills, endearing.
  2. You can talk about everything you like, everything you don't like, or everything that's on your mind.Surely the waiting room you find yourself in generates enough emotions to feel creative, let them flow!A lot of things rhyme with “killing time”.
    • Don't you have the soul of a songwriter? You can always try!Laws How to Write Lyrics to a Song.Maybe? You needed to kill time to discover what your calling is for a fulfilling career!
    • If you don't want to write a song, make a music video! It could be a parody or you could just play dumb or pretend to be the artist.Everyone on YouTube does it, so can you!
  3. Create a scrapbook. These crafts are easy and fun to make and preserve your memories much better than Facebook.Take a trip to a stationery shop and a DIY store and you will be won over by this pastime. There are so many options that you can find something that you absolutely have to try.
    • Scrapbooks are also a great idea for a gift.If you want to remember your life, your holidays or a relationship with someone, these collections are a good personal way to show your affection.
  4. Think about hobbies you can do anywhere, with simple materials to carry around, which shouldn't require too much effort to start a project. If scrapbooking is a bit of a commitment for you (or at least requires you to do it at home), think smaller.Keeping your hands busy while you wait is a surefire way to lose track of the passing time!Consider:
    • The knitting or the crochet.Small projects, like pot holders or mittens, could be made anywhere, as you can carry the equipment around in your bag.
    • Scribble or make sketches.Great inventions began with sketches and even on napkins.Keep a pencil and small notepad with you to scribble while you wait.If you're with someone else, you can also create your own strategy game, based on players taking turns, drawing buildings and units and spelling out what happens each time.
    • Create jewelery with beads or dedicate yourself to macrame. However, if you use beads, make sure you don't drop them on the floor!
  5. Create a blog. No one necessarily has to read it, you have to write it first and foremost for yourself. It provides a great creative outlet and a space to talk about yourself.Who knows, maybe your blog will be read by other bored people!Or you could triumph at a Bloggie!
    • Your blog doesn't have to have a specific meaning. You don't have to try Julia Child's recipes or force yourself to date your best friend for 60 days or talk about the war you've waged against fur:write whatever you want.Find a free website (like Blogger.com or WordPress) and start typing away!
  6. Kitchen. Open a recipe site based on certain ingredients and see if you can reproduce some with what you have in the fridge. You will be able to kill time And appreciate the finished product! You will kill two birds with one stone.
    • Looking for inspiration?Try the section of Kitchen of wikiHow for ideas!

Kill Time by Being Productive

  1. It can be household chores and other things that you have been putting off for a long time or for which you never have a free minute;you don't need much preparation to get started. When you have some time to kill, you might find the motivation to do them. Here are some examples:
    • Review your bank account. If you are waiting for an appointment and have the right documents on hand, you may want to take them out of your bag and take a look at your register and total deposits and debts and make sure everything is up to date.
    • Update your daily planner. Many of these are found on electronic devices and old entries can occasionally be deleted to free up space.
    • Clean up your phone by deleting messages and old contacts. If you have a phone full of old numbers or one that has stored multiple recent calls, missed calls, and voice and text messages, it might be a good time to get rid of all the junk.
    • Organize your purse or wallet.Make sure no one is watching you if you take out a lot of cash or personal belongings; However, if there are only a few people around you, you might want to sort through credit cards, business cards, and other items to make it a little easier to find them when you need them.
  2. Meditate. This tip should probably be at the top of the page because it is one of the best ideas:meditating can calm and relax you like nothing else.If you've never done it before, give it a try!It only takes 10 minutes, you won't have to do practically anything.
    • Either way, you'll get better at it as time goes by.Don't expect to reach nirvana the first time you try while waiting for your dentist appointment.Being properly Zen is a skill that is cultivated with practice.
  3. Whether it's homework or making dinner, there are probably tasks you'll need to complete at some point. How about replying to the email from that friend who wrote to you two months ago that you completely forgot about? You can write to him or do his laundry!
    • Nothing comes to mind? You're probably not thinking hard enough. Most people have something they can clean, organize, do, send, research, or finalize.Think ahead:What do you have to do next week?
  4. Oops, it's already been done! But you could always make some changes to this!

Warnings

  • Don't sleep if you snore, and who wants to doze off in a waiting room?
  • Don't expect too much of yourself by trying to use every second of every day productively.Occasionally, give yourself a chance to just relax.
