Caneworms (Hermodice carunculata) are marine worms belonging to the Polychaete class, originating from the tropical area of ​​the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, which live on the seabed. They can measure from 15 to 30 cm and resemble colorful millipedes, the body is composed of 60 to 150 identical segments, separated from each other by a thin white line and protected by cuticles.

This species does not represent a danger to humans, but if accidentally bumped, its bristles inject a powerful toxin under the skin, producing strong irritation and a burning sensation painful.The sting can also lead to nausea and dizziness.Wormdogs get entangled in fishermen's nets and if they find fish in them, they eat them, leaving nothing behind.It is a voracious and carnivorous species that endangers marine ecosystems:as well as dying organisms, they also feed on starfish and sea urchins.
