Israel bombs Syria as protests against Netanyahu grow

On Saturday 7 September hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets again against the Netanyahu government and the inability to reach an agreement with Hamas about the hostages.On Sunday morning a man then opened fire on Israeli soldiers at the crossing Allenby Bridge, killing three people.And in the evening Israel bombed a series of military sites in the Central Syria, killing at least 16 people.

It was another intense weekend on the Middle Eastern front, which began on the evening of Friday 6 September with the killing by Israel of a Turkish-American activist, in Nablus.This while the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip has exceededeleventh month, with over 40 thousand Palestinians killed and an agreement for the cease-fire still far away.

New protests in Israel

They are about 750 thousand the people took to the streets in Israel on the evening of Saturday 7 September to protest against the Netanyahu government, like this as done also the previous weekend.

Protesters blocked the highway leading to Tel Aviv, where the turnout of the protests was 500 thousand people and the police arrested one person.There were other blockages on the arterial roads of Haifa and a protester was injured in the clash with the police.The protests are led by the associations of relatives of the Israeli hostages in the hands of Hamas, who criticize the government for its inability to reach an agreement with the radical Palestinian organization that would lead to their release.

The attack in the West Bank

A few hours after the end of the protests in Israel, on the morning of Sunday 8 September a man opened fire against Israeli soldiers on the border between West Bank and Jordan

The attack took place on the Jordanian side of the crossing Allenby Bridge and it was done by a former Jordanian soldier, in what appears to be an isolated act at the hands of a lone wolf.Three Israeli civilians were killed in the attack and the Israeli authorities closed the crossing.To Amman, capital of Jordan, numerous people took to the streets to celebrate the attack, even setting fire to Israeli flags.

Also in the West Bank, on Friday 6 September, the Israeli army shot and killed Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, a Turkish-American activist, who was participating in a demonstration in Beita, near Nablus.

Israeli bombs in Syria

The weekend it then closed with the Israeli bombings in Central Syria, at approximately 11.30pm on Sunday 8 September.They were hit military sites, in some of which they were at work Iranian technicians.And the attack caused at least 16 dead and over forty injured.

Between executions of activists and military operations across the border at the hands of Israel, attacks and anti-government protests, the situation in the Middle East is becoming increasingly difficult.
