Who has never suffered from acne once in a lifetime?According to the data of theAmerican academy of dermatology, at least 80 percent of people between the ages of 12 and 24 would be affected.A condition caused by various factors that generates embarrassment, especially in the delicate age ofadolescence. The young Milanese entrepreneur knows this well Elena Setaro who took advantage of his 17 years of living with acne, giving life to one of the most innovative startups in the skincare sector. Is called Dermaself and it's one digital platform able to create a personalized dermatological routine, thanks to artificial intelligence and a process monitored by the dermatologist Adele Sparavigna.
A startup born from a personal story
A dermatologist mother, acne since the age of 10 and many complexes.Because, as he says Elena Setaro in the videos on his social channels, "everyone felt entitled to ask me why I had acne despite my mother's profession".And just the shame of burning skin, and phrases like:“You would be pretty if only you didn't have acne”, trigger in her the need to hide behind covering foundations and more or less scientific remedies.“The mistake I made was following any advice from my friends and trying everything on the market on my hyper-reactive skin.”Fed up with useless and harmful solutions, Setaro decides to put her experience at the service of other acne-prone skin by combining new technologies and scientific consultation. He leaves his permanent job in a multinational company in London and, together with his dermatologist mother, founds his own startup which offers online dermatological consultations and tailor-made skincare programs.
How Dermaself works
Acne presents different causes and types, therefore there cannot be a one-size-fits-all solution.“What gave my friends peach skin triggered eruptions in me,” says Elena Setaro herself.Precisely to create tailor-made paths and products (cleansers, day and night creams), the Dermaself digital platform offers an in-depth analysis quiz with loading of photo to be taken from the skin. Thanks to the support of artificial intelligence, in fact, it identifies the type and degree of acne, on which it processes a free analysis personalized route. At this point the user can subscribe to the service to receive the products monthly and be followed (or followed) by a team of dermatologists and skin specialists who monitor the progress and reformulate the products based on changes in the skin.
The startup, also presented at the Web summit in Lisbon, has a double value. On the one hand, it invites you to a personalized dermatological program at affordable prices. And on the other hand it acts as an invitation to inclusiveness and body positivity, to no longer hide behind a mask of foundation. Also due to this social value, it has entered the sustainable startup ecosystem LifeGate Way.
