- The anti-aging (or aging) pill for dogs is about to be launched on the market.
- Studied for years, it finally seems to become a reality.
- Its implementation could also become important to combat human problems related to advancing age.
What is the anti-aging pill
It's every dog lover's dream.A miracle pill that can prolong life – short, or rather very short compared to human standards – of your dog.And hope, thanks to a science in constant research and movement, seems to be a little closer and a little less utopian. In reality, the news on scientific research in this context dates back a few years ago. And, precisely, to 2016 when theUniversity of Washington within the scope of Dog aging project, began testing a drug that apparently would be successful in slowing down the progressive aging of the internal organs of dogs, allowing treated subjects to live longer and healthier. The clinical trial was based on the administration of a drug normally used to prevent rejection in organ transplants. An ambitious project which, however, to date, has not yet produced the desired results. But let's come to the present day.
Is an anti-aging pill for dogs possible?
The objective remains only one:whether it is possible to prolong the lives of our people dogs with an anti-aging pill without contraindications and in complete safety. For now, the strategies that combat aging are based above all on a healthy lifestyle, on the use of targeted supplements and, above all, on a specific diet for each subject that takes into account the race, size, age and lifestyle. But the possibility of a periodic pill that delays the involutional processes of age remains and, over the years, is starting to become an increasingly certainty.Furthermore, the objective is that all this could also concern human beings because - and this is known - it is a short step from scientific experimentation on animals to human experimentation.
The company that is dealing with it, with a specific start up, is called Loyal, is Californian and her research is aimed at a pill to be administered periodically to mature subjects on the road to old age.The study also concerns the influence ofepigenetics – that is, the branch of molecular biology that studies genetic mutations and the transmission of hereditary characteristics not directly attributable to the DNA sequence - on the aging of the dog, as well as the behaviors and environment that can alter the functioning of the genes.
And they are exactly the ones molecular genetic changes that contribute to aging.By studying them we could come up with better parameters for determining the health of a dog and caring for it as an elderly person. In short, still theoretical research that could – we are talking about 2026 – give important results not only for those who love animals, but also for the entire human race.
