Michelin Italia confirms its commitment to sustainability in the freight transport sector, rewarding for the third consecutive year 29 fleets for their virtuous practices in tire management. This recognition aims to promote and enhance companies that adopt strategies aimed at reducing environmental impact and promoting economic efficiency in the sector.
The multi-screw approach on Michelin tires
With a total of approximately 9,000 trucks in circulation, the 29 awarded fleets (here is the list) have proven to be at the forefront of sustainable tire management, saving a total of 3,355 tons of CO2 and 1,224 tons of raw materials. These savings are equivalent to the annual emissions of a fleet of 83 trucks and the resources needed to produce approximately 17,500 truck tires.
The project, in continuous evolution and expansion, foresees that from 2025 theCertificate for sustainable tire management can also be assigned to fleets not affiliated with Michelin Servizi e Soluzioni, provided that adopt the multi-screw model and request it.This innovation will be supported by the monitoring of Michelin technicians and the validation of the calculation processes by the Dekra certification body.
Sustainability is an embracing concept not only the environment, but also the socio-economic aspects.Numerous benefits arise from adopting sustainable tire management practices, including a increase in mileage by 25 percent and a reduction in fuel consumption of 2 liters every 100 km travelled thanks to the resculpting.Furthermore, the retreading operation allows for a saving of 40 percent in raw materials compared to purchasing new tyres, without compromising performance.
A certificate that highlights the key role of the private sector in environmental sustainability
The awarding of the certificate is based on objective data collected through tire measurements of transport fleet vehicles.A mathematical formula developed by Ladoux's R&D center takes into account various factors, including regroove rate, retread rate, mileage driven and number of vehicles, to calculate CO2 and raw material savings.
The Michelin Group is strongly committed to reducing tire weight, CO2 emissions and raw material consumption, without compromising performance. All Michelin truck tires are designed to be rebuildable and resculptable, thus contributing to saving resources and reducing environmental impact.
In conclusion, the Certificate for the sustainable management of tires awarded by Michelin Italia highlights the key role that the private sector can play in addressing environmental challenges and promotingcircular economy.
