You have reached the end of the wick of your Zippo, and by pulling it to lengthen it the last piece has come out.Below are instructions for changing it, which you will probably have to do many more times during the life of the lighter.

Steps
-
Remove the body of the lighter from the shell (pulling on the ends), as when you need to refill it with petrol.
-
Loosen the screw on the flint at the bottom, but be careful because it is spring loaded and could fall out when you unscrew it. If the screw is too tight to unscrew by hand, use a small slotted screwdriver.Instead of the screwdriver you can use the edge of the lighter cover.
-
Place the flint spring into the Zippo shell. Take the stone out of the bottom and put it in the shell too, so as not to lose it.If it doesn't want to come out, give it a little tap and it should come off.
-
Remove the felt protector and spare stones, if you keep them under the felt pad, and put these pieces aside in the shell as well.
-
Using tweezers, remove the cotton batting, one piece at a time. You will notice that there is not a single piece of cotton but several overlapping layers. When you remove them, store them in more or less the same way they were.It will be easier to put them back on later.
-
Insert the new wick into the hole from above. Slide it until there are a few millimeters outside the lighter.
-
Bend the wick inside the body with tweezers so it doesn't fall out while you're working.
-
Put the cotton padding back as it was before. The pieces should have a shape that allows you to fit them together like a puzzle.
-
Using tweezers, fold the wick between the layers of cotton to use up the length. It should finish before you run out of cotton pieces.
-
Replace the felt pad (and any spare stones). Put the flint back and screw back its spring. There is no need to tighten hard, just get to the bottom and the lighter will work properly.
-
If you left a few millimeters of excess wick in step number 6, cut it at the level of the lighter.
-
Refill your lighter and try it.

Advice
- In step number 6 you can leave a few millimeters of extra wick to hold it while you fold it inside the body of the lighter.

Warnings
- Keep all parts away from open flames until you have completely reassembled the lighter.
- Wait to light after recharging, so as to let any petrol residue from the lighter dry.
- Do not change the wick near open flames.
- Don't smoke while changing the wick! The cotton padding may be soaked in petrol!
