ANCONA – There will be 107 wineries from the Marche region that will participate in the Vinitaly in Verona, from Sunday 14th to Wednesday 17th April, and of these 49 will be on display in the collective organized by the Region.More than 200 labels for free tasting in the traditional "Terrazza Marche", within an exhibition area of ​​over 1,000 square meters and with a new layout, also in pavilion 7.The “Cantina Marche” has 20 PDOs and one PGI, and has an organic surface area of ​​almost 7,700 hectares which accounts for 42.7% of the surface area cultivated with vineyards at a regional level (second largest region in Italy) and with the province of Ascoli Piceno and Fermo which - with 3,849 "organic" hectares out of a total of 8,305 - exceeds 46.3% in terms of the incidence of organic vineyards.

IN THE MARCHE REGION, 11,000 COMPANIES GROW 18,000 HECTARES OF VINEYARDS

In general, the sector in the region has around 11,000 companies that cultivate a total of 18,000 hectares of vineyards for an average annual production in the last four years of over 880,000 hectoliters of wine, with 2023 characterized by a marked decline in production, due to climate change and of downy mildew, so much so that wine production just exceeded 518,000 hectoliters.The sector aims to strengthen itself, thanks to the aid coming from the Region, which between 2020-2021 and 2023-2024 has allocated a total of 22.74 million euros between restructuring and reconversion of the vineyards, investments in the cellar and in sales points, promotion of wines on the markets of third countries.Meanwhile, after 2022 which marked a strong growth in exports in value (+24.9% compared to the previous year), 2023 for Marche wine recorded a decline of 11.5%, bringing the values ​​below the 66.4 million euros.United States, Germany, Sweden and Switzerland make up the top four target markets.

ANTONINI:“WE FOCUS ON SUSTAINABILITY AND WINE TOURISM”

The regional councilor for Agriculture, Andrea Maria Antonini remains optimistic:“Sustainability and wine tourism are the development drivers on which the Region is aiming to promote the territory and regional food and wine excellence starting from wine, an identity element and driving force for Marche agri-food exports,” he comments.At Vinitaly, the Marche region will work on promotion by organizing meetings, guided tastings and in-depth studies in its headquarters in pavilion 7, including a focus on the regional winemaking tradition and the value of "Made in Marche" wine in the conference "Deep roots, future visions :the evolution of Marche wine", scheduled for Monday 15 April, at 2.15 pm, in the Raffaello room, with the participation, among others, of the councilor Antonini himself.On the same day (at 12.30 pm, Raffaello room), the meeting "Resistant varieties and environmental sustainability:experimentation in the Marche", promoted by the Consorzio Vini Piceni.Wednesday 17 April (at 10am again in the Raffaello room), focus on the "Future of denominations:subzones or Uga?”, with a conference promoted by the IMT with the intervention, among others, of Attilio Scienza, professor of Viticulture at the University of Milan.Also during the fair, the Marche will participate in "Vinitaly and the City" in the courtyard of the old market in Verona, with a tasting of wines from the consortia Marche Institute for Wine Protection and Consorzio Vini Piceni, in an event organized by Veronafiere for wine lovers wine and enthusiasts and which will also see an institutional moment with a toast scheduled for Sunday 14 April at 6.30 pm.
