The celebrations from 18 to 22 April

ROME - Rome is preparing to celebrate the 54th World Earth Day, the most important environmental event of the United Nations with billions of citizens involved in the 193 member countries, organized by Earth Day Italy and the Focolare Movement, with hundreds of events including concerts, talk shows, educational workshops, sports activities, concerts, street art and dozens of activities dedicated to innovation, the environment and culture. The official celebrations, presented today by Pierluigi Sassi, President of Earth Day Italia, will take place: from 18 to 21 April with the Village for the Earth at Villa Borghese and on the Terrazza del Pincio in Rome; The Innovability Festival will be held from 18 to 20 April at the Casa del Cinema in Rome; #OnePeopleOnePlanet, The Multimedia Marathon, will be held on April 22nd on the occasion of World Earth Day, 16 hours of live content from the Fuksas Cloud, broadcast live on RaiPlay and Vaticannews.va.

Now in its 54th edition, this global celebration sees Italy in the front row in the #OnePeopleOnePlanet campaign which gives its name to the 16-hour multimedia marathon produced live from the Fuksas Nuvola auditorium. With the slogan 'Get your heart beating for the Earth again!' the #OPOP marathon reaches its fifth edition this year thanks to the Earth Day production and international broadcasting on the RaiPlay and VaticanNews channels. The social networks of Earth Day Network and the UN environmental program Connect4Climate, organizer of Planet Week at the G7 in Turin, will support the global promotion of the event. In the evening, the historic Earth Day Italia Concert for the Earth will also be broadcast live on RaiPlay and VaticanNews from the Auditorium della Nuvola..Collecting the baton left by the many artists who have fought for a more sustainable world will be Luca Barbarossa with his Social Band who will dedicate the evening to the theme 'Peace and Environment' together with other important artists.

The Italian celebrations, already recognized by the Earth Day Network in Washington as an international best case for the protection of the planet and the development of a strong ecological awareness, will have a further important meaning this year, becoming an iconic stage of the G7 Climate, Energy and Environment of Turin (scheduled for April 28th to 30th).In fact, two events of high symbolic value dedicated to intercultural and intergenerational dialogue are scheduled in the Piedmontese capital, supported by the Piedmont Region and held in the historic Environment Park technology park on environmental technologies.Furthermore, in collaboration with MASE and MIM, young university students and those in their final years of high school in Rome and Turin, together with a representation of their peers from the 7 G7 countries, will participate in thematic tables for the drafting of a text that will be brought to the attention of the 7 Environment Ministers involved in the G7.

“We are at the 54th edition of a celebration that should just be a great party experienced to reciprocate together the infinite joys that nature gives us,” he explains. Pierluigi Sassi, President of Earth Day Italia– But unfortunately we live in a time in which it has become more urgent than ever to make choices, to make decisions. In fact, never before has environmental sensitivity been consolidated in Italian and global public opinion, but we still struggle to transform this sensitivity into action. We are on the eve of the G7 Environment in Turin and our initiatives have been chosen as Flag Events to promote dialogue between cultures and generations. We ask all peace workers to enhance this important occasion, to make a difference and kick off a new season of common commitment to Peace and the Environment".

“Earth Day will be a very important prologue to the G7 which will take place in Turin.A fundamental event to take stock of our planet and discuss climate and energy, two indissoluble elements that go hand in hand.Climate and environment are at the same time a symbol to send a message of peace towards the resolution of conflicts".He declared it Mario Antonio Scino, Chief of Cabinet of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security.
