Cai-Cammini Pact:comes the unique signage on the paths

Forces also united to carry out maintenance on the paths and to spread the culture of hiking

ROME - Getting lost along a path often takes a moment;maybe even a question of signs and directions.But now the Italian Alpine Club and Feder.Cammini (Federation of Italian Routes, Itineraries and Cammini) have signed a memorandum of understanding three-yearly which has as its objective "the uniformity of the signs of the hiking routes, the maintenance of the path network, the development of projects that encourage and increase hiking on paths, roads and paths as a sustainable practice that respects the environments frequented".

The two associations will collaborate to complete and maintain the network of Italian roads and paths using the CAI standards for horizontal and vertical signage.The signpost red-white-red, already adopted as a reference in the regulations of many Regions, in fact it allows us to overcome the babel of geometric symbols of various colors present locally.In addition to the CAI signs, "European trail signs" will also be placed on the routes included in the European Trails network, in compliance with the criteria established by the ERA (European Ramblers Association) for the identification of international long-distance trails.

“Clear and uniform signage on all Italian paths and paths is crucial to making it easier for walkers to use it, both Italians and foreigners.For this reason, the CAI makes its decades of experience available to train all the volunteers who deal with the marking and maintenance of the trail network", states the President of the Italian Alpine Club Antonio Montani.
With Feder.Cammini, continues Montani, “to whom we are linked by a great harmony of intent, we then intend to work together on another aspect that is very close to our hearts: the support and facilitation of reception in the accommodation facilities present along the hiking routes“.The president of Feder.Cammini Andrea Lombardi echoes:“There are many people and associations who monitor the routes of Italian roads, itineraries and paths;they follow the maintenance and care of the infrastructures, signs and hospitality in synergy with local authorities and institutions.Collaborating with the CAI is crucial to be able to ensure a coherent and well-defined signage system on all paths and paths.Furthermore, it is essential to provide uniform training to volunteers and facilitate reception in the accommodation facilities present along the Italian routes".

The protocol also provides for the development of a joint project to recover and enhance routes, historical-cultural itineraries and paths, with particular reference to the so-called "minor" ones, and the possibility of organizing meetings and activities with schools, both in the classroom and in the environment, through the local realities of the two associations.
