VENICE – Last, but 'happy'. Belluno found itself at the bottom of the rankings in the new edition of the Sole 24 Ore climate index. Last, once again, in the sunshine index (just 6.7 hours of sunshine per day, compared to a national average of 7.8) and for cold days (23.6 on average every year with maximum perceived temperature less than three degrees); second to last for high relative humidity, which takes into consideration the days that are too dry in summer (less than 30%) and those that are too humid in winter (more than 70%), in total 255 in the Venetian capital. The number of rainy days is also high, 118 per year with at least two millimeters of cumulative rainfall, more frequent only in Lecco where the average for the decade reaches 122 days. But there is no reason to despair at all, they say right from Belluno:“What may seem like a negative element today will instead be fundamental for the climate revolution we are witnessing. Rain, cold and less sunshine, with climate change, will be the key to the mountain's success in a few years, also from an anti-depopulation perspective”, points out the president of the Province of Belluno Roberto Padrin.
“THE PLAINS WILL BE UNINHABITABLE, THE MOUNTAINS WILL NOT”
“I waited before commenting on the ranking, in the belief that these rankings, although starting from certain data and measurable parameters, they are hardly able to frame the actual realities of the territories who try to paint.I have heard negative and angry comments from many Belluno residents. Then, upon reflection, I realized that this ranking is actually extremely positive, if looked at with foresight,” says Padrin.
Because it must be read in the light of ongoing climate change "and which in a few decades (for the most pessimistic, in a few years) will make uninhabitable different areas, primarily the plain. We don't say it, the scenario is indicated by climate experts. The mountain, however, has one more chance:rain and cold will make the highlands much more liveable. Not to mention that in a drought emergency like the one seen last year, the rain from the mountains is both wealth and an element of cleaning the air, and therefore makes the climate of the Belluno area high-quality and healthy. The problem is that the rankings don't say these aspects”, Padrin remarks.
