MILAN - Marche Multiservices absolute protagonist of 'Top Utilities 2024', the twelfth edition of the award reserved for local public service companies in the energy, water and waste sectors, which was held this morning at the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce in Milan with the participation, among others, of the presidents of Arera Stefano Besseghini and Utilitalia Filippo Brandolini and of Minister for the Environment Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, connected via video.
The ceremony saw the multiutility headed by Pesaro win in the 'Territory and Community' category, but not only:MMS also obtained nominations for the 'Absolute Top Utility' and 'Training Talents' categories, thus being among the best Italian service companies in three categories out of the seven overall examined.
“It is certainly a very important award, we are very proud and I want to share it with all the employees and colleagues of the company because clearly they are the ones I thank,” says the CEO of Marche Multiservizi Mauro Tiviroli, as “their daily work allows us to be here to collect an important award. For a company like ours, being part of a group like Hera is certainly fundamental because it allows us to benefit from expertise, know-how, innovation and also, I mean, an important financial economic capacity".
The selection was based onperformance and parameter analysis carried out by the Althesys research team, a company specialized in strategic consultancy and knowledge development in key sectors such as utilities. The Top Utility award, organized by Althesis, is considered the recognition awarded by the Italian think tank of reference in the public utility sector:among the finalist companies in the various categories, in fact, we find companies such as A2A, Acea, Enel, Hera and Iren.
All things considered, this is the fifth 'Oscar' obtained by MMS in 11 years.Today's recognition adds to the Top Utility 'Consumers and Territorial Development' of 2012, to those for 'Sustainability' obtained in 2021 and 2022 and also to the award for best Italian utility of 2016.
“We, over the 15 years of life of the Multiservizi brand, have poured over half a billion euros into the territory in terms of investments and resources assigned to municipalities and local authorities - underlines Tiviroli - which have then benefited the community in terms of social and cultural aspects. So let's say that as far as we are concerned, the territory is one of our strong points, we employ directly and indirectly over 1,200 units per year, therefore a truly important figure today.Even in moments of crisis we have never had any decline in terms of employment."
“In today's conference the central theme was governing complexity,” he underlines Alessandro Marangoni, CEO of Althesys and head of the research team.A theme which, as Marangoni specifies, "has been explored in its various aspects".On the other hand, the world of utilities in Italy is growing, at least based on the data collected in 2022:the 100 largest public service companies are worth almost 300 billion euros (293 billion, +75% compared to the previous year), equal to 15% of Italian GDP, with investments of 11 billion.
However, multi-service companies are called upon to face a very complex macroeconomic and geopolitical scenario, between the commitment to combating climate change and the investment plans capable of supporting their growth. These are some of the salient data from the study and the event organized in collaboration with Utilitalia which, like every year, shows the state of the art in the water, energy and waste sectors.According to Marangoni, the balance of good and bad complexity can contribute “to the development of the sector by highlighting how complexity in itself can be a value, not just a problem. We have seen the speeches on the topic of the digitalisation of artificial intelligence" which demonstrate "how overall the sector is changing at a surprising pace compared to previous years and we have also seen this in the profiles of the companies that were awarded today".
The best Italian utility, according to all the parameters of the Top Utility analysis model, is Iren, which wins the Absolute Top Utility award. The five also included Acque, CVA, Gruppo CAP and Marche Multiservizi.First in the ESG category is Acque, the best also include A2A, Brianzacque, Hera and Iren. For Communication, the CAP Group stood out (with Aimag, CVA, Enel and Estra). For Research and Innovation, A2A won (in fifth place with Acea, Hera, Iren and Smat). In the Territory and Community category, the recognition went to Marche Multiservizi (competing with Acque, Brianzacque, Nuoveacque, Uniacque), while for the Competitiveness and efficiency category the recognition went to Acinque (with Acque, Acquebresciane, Brianzacque and Silea). In the Talent Training category, Gaia Spa finally excelled (candidate with Estra, Iren, Marche Multiservizi and Nuove Acque).
