Almost 20,000 people have already signed the appeal launched by "for Alp" on Change.org

VENICE – Almost 20,000 people have already signed the online petition launched by "for Alp" on Change.org to protect the Tre cime di Lavaredo from too much traffic:“This corner of paradise is threatened by the growing impact of car traffic, which brings with it pollution, noise and increasing pressure on the local ecosystem. The time has come to act to preserve this precious natural environment for future generations”, are the words of the promoters.“Car traffic at the Auronzo refuge has reached worrying levels,” we read in the text.
“With a capacity of approx 700 parking spaces, the car park sees significant occupancy especially in the summer months, with an estimated average (very optimistic) of over 65,000 vehicles reaching the area annually. This massive influx not only contributes to air and noise pollution, but also accelerates soil erosion and disturbs local wildlife. The excessive human presence is putting the unique biodiversity of this region at risk and is deteriorating the tourist experience itself, with deteriorated air and a less silent and serene environment."For these reasons, the authors of the appeal propose "the closure to private traffic, with the exception of electric vehicles or vehicles powered by renewable sources, of the road leading to the Auronzo refuge and the establishment of a line of electric buses or buses powered by greens".

The stop to traffic, according to the promoters of the appeal, "would have multiple benefits" starting from the reduction of pollution:“Electric or renewable energy buses and cars would drastically reduce emissions of CO2 and other pollutants, improving air quality and reducing the noise impact.”Fewer private vehicles also mean "less damage to the soil and flora, protecting the natural habitat of local species".And a sustainable public transport system "would guarantee safe and regulated access to the refuge, avoiding congestion and making the experience more pleasant for everyone".All to then make it an "example of sustainability:this transition can serve as a model for other tourist destinations, promoting responsible and sustainable tourism."For this reason, we read in the petition, “we ask the local and regional authorities to take decisive measures to close the road to combustion cars and implement an environmentally friendly public transport system. It is a solution that not only protects the environment, but also improves the visitor experience and preserves the beauty and tranquility of this unique natural area,” concludes the text.
