ROME – It is not yet visible to the naked eye, but it could be, albeit faintly, in the coming weeks.Astronomers are following closely the passage of 12P/Pons-Brooks, the long-tailed comet which returns to our skies approximately every 71 years. Its orbit will take it to reach the perihelion, that is, the point closest to the Sun, next April 21st. Meanwhile, it continues its journey into the inner solar system, giving us the opportunity to observe it.

Currently, comet 12P it is not visible to the naked eye, but it could be early April, albeit weakly.Subsequently, for us in the Northern Hemisphere observation will be difficult. It is possible to observe it these days by withdrawing into it a dark place, away from artificial lights, and use a good binoculars or a telescope. The best time to see the comet is after sunset, when it sits low on the horizon, near the constellation of Andromeda. The Moon is in the new moon phase, so its light will not disturb observation.Alternatively, it is possible to enjoy its passage comfortably from home thanks to thelive streaming event proposed by Virtual Telescope, scheduled for this evening, March 12, starting at 7.30 pm.
