One ton sunfish on the beach of Cesenatico

ROME – Surprise on the beach Valverde, a Cesenatico, on the morning of Sunday 3 March.He was found on shore a huge specimen of sunfish, weighing a ton.

The recovery of the fish was possible "thanks to the municipal technicians, the volunteers of Radio Soccorso Cesenatico, the "Roberto Zocca" Diving Center and the "Amici animali" company of Ravenna", explains the mayor of the Romagna town Matteo Gozzoli, also posting some impressive shots.

The sunfish is one of the largest and heaviest bony fish that exists.A very long-lived fish, it is also versatile regarding its habitat:located mainly in tropical, temperate and cold waters, it is known that it also goes as far as Newfoundland or the Baltic Sea, not disdaining some trips to the Mediterranean.A few years ago a large specimen was found on the Lido of Venice. Because of its fin, it can be confused with a shark when it swims on the surface.
