ROME - An example of a female wolf it remained entangled in a metal snare left by some poacher and then it was hit repeatedly in the head, probably with a stick in Stradella, in the province of Pavia. The National Animal Protection Agency recovered the animal and filed a complaint against unknown persons.

It all happened a few days ago when the volunteers of the Enpa of Voghera received a report:“There is a wounded dog that is yelping, come as soon as possible”.Once on site, however, the volunteers found themselves faced with an example of a female wolf, which had remained entangled in the metal lace placed by some poacher in a piece of land in the Stradella area, in the province of Pavia. The animal was exhausted, bleeding and having difficulty breathing.THEThe Enpa volunteer called the Ats veterinary doctor, who immediately rushed to the scene and freed the animal to urgently take him to the Croce Azzurra Clinic in Casteggio and from here, once identified as a wolf specimen, to the Cras in Cascina Fornace in Codevilla managed by doctor Giovanna Grassi.

The x-rays revealed the horror of the violence that the she-wolf had suffered:in fact there were a massive presence of fractures in the skull with great possibility of permanent outcomes.

“A very disturbing aspect – commented the ENPA volunteers from Voghera – which adds horror to this act of barbarism. The wolf, after being trapped in the snare, was violently beaten on the head, probably with a stick and left hanging there in agony. Now despite serious injuries, the she-wolf has survived and is showing signs of improvement:she managed to eat something on her own and carried out her bodily functions spontaneously. However, his condition remains critical and the injuries he suffered could leave permanent consequences.”

The cowardice and wickedness behind this umpteenth act of violence is horrifying – commented Carla Rocchi, national president of Enpa – I thank the volunteers from the ENPA of Voghera who intervened promptly and I hope that the work of the police forces will lead to finding the person responsible for this latest massacre against a wolf.An animal that is increasingly the target of violence and terror campaigns promoted by politicians and national, regional and provincial institutional representatives to fuel hatred against this particularly protected species.Campaigns that would like to lead to the weakening of the protection status granted to the wolf and to authorize shootings. The National Animal Protection Agency will not allow it and for this reason it deploys all the tools available to protect this large predator that is increasingly under attack. Our legal office, through the lawyer Claudia Ricci, has already taken action and filed a complaint against unknown persons. We trust in the work of the police."
