Never so hot in January, even breaking the 2020 record

Compared to the average of the pre-industrial period, between 1850 and 1900, January 2024 was 1.66 degrees warmer

ROME - This past January was the warmest January ever recorded globally, with an average temperature of 13.14 degrees centigrade, approximately 0.70 degrees higher than that of the period 1991-2020:this was communicated by the Climate Change Service Copernicus (C3S) in a report released today.
The study recalls that the previous warmest January was that of 2020, now "exceeded" by 0.12 degrees centigrade. According to Copernicus, last month was the eighth warmest month in a row on record.Compared to the average of the pre-industrial period, between 1850 and 1900, January 2024 was 1.66 degrees warmer.
