ROME - "The M90 bear killed in Val di Sole. This morning Fugatti had signed his death warrant.A shame."Thus the Enpa (National Animal Protection Agency) announced the death of the M90 bear on social media. The President of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti, had in fact signed the abatement decree of the animal. Not even the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto, who had asked that culling was truly the extreme solution, could do anything.
Enpa announced in an official note that it had presented a request for access to documents regarding the Ispra opinion (Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research) which, according to what was announced by the Autonomous Province of Trento, would have given the green light to kill the M90 bear. The Enpa "will challenge any provision that orders the killing of poor M90“, the association said.

THE BEAR M90
Ispra's opinion had been requested by the PAT after that an engaged couple was apparently chased by the M90 animal in Val di Sole last January 28th.Reconstruction on which the Enpa had sraised several doubts.
“We want to understand on which elements the Institute's opinion is based, but we also want to understand what measures are prescribed by the Institute. These days almost everyone, especially in the political-institutional world of the Province, is taking it for granted death sentence of the plantigrade, accommodating in this way the well-known ursicidal design of President Fugatti.Instead - explains Enpa - it is necessary to remember that the rules provide also alternative measures compared to the killing of an animal which, moreover, noHe has never attacked anyone“.

Another aspect that Enpa intends to clarify is that relating to alleged dissuasive measures adopted by the PAT to avoid any possible contact between M90 and humans.
“We will also ask the Autonomous Province to account for this.It is our belief that in this regard the Province did absolutely nothing, just as it has done nothing either to inform residents and tourists about the presence of bears, nor to optimize coexistence with plantigrades. In our opinion – continues the animal rights association – Fugatti's design is clear:look for the casus belli”.
An indirect confirmation of the suspicions advanced by Enpa also comes from Ispra itself which, according to what was reported by press sources, in the aforementioned opinion reported a failure to apply prevention measures, with particular reference to anti-bear bins.
