ROME – Al Biopark of Rome a girl was born Sumatran tiger, feline at very high risk of extinction.The puppy is doing very well and is very lively.Her mother immediately began to breastfeed and look after her. It is not yet visible to the public.


This is a very important birth and of great scientific relevance, because the Sumatran tiger, which lives in the tropical forests ofIndonesian island, is one of the 6 living subspecies most at risk of extinction due to the loss and fragmentation ofhabitat, del poaching and direct persecution for conflicts with local human activities: it is estimated that there are around 600 left in the wild.


The parents are Tila and Kasih:the mother was born in 2011 at Chester Zoo, England, and comes from Heidelberg Zoo, Germany.Dad Kasih was born in 2014 at Beauval Zoo, France.His name is literally 'Terima Kashi', which in the local language means 'thank you'.
