ROME – British experts and academics, and diplomats from various countries participated in the inauguration of the photographic exhibition 'The Cooling Solution' at the Italian Cultural Institute in London. The scientific project, which was born from the research of the economist Enrica De Cian of the Cà Foscari University of Venice, holds the first stage of its journey in Europe in the British capital, just a few days after the news that the northern summer of 2024 was the hottest ever.
Through the art photography of Gaia Squarci she tells how people from different backgrounds socio-cultural, in various parts of the world, adapt to live at increasingly higher temperatures, without limiting yourself to using air conditioning indiscriminately.
Beautiful photographs and effective infographics offer a visual journey between Brazil, India, Indonesia and Italy, explaining in a more understandable way than ever the phenomenon of global warming and the need to combat it with "normal" tools and not just energy-intensive ones such as the air conditioning.“Many people – claims De Cian – do not have access to energy for air conditioners. And then even those who can afford them are exposed to new forms of vulnerability such as that linked to energy prices.Anyone who spends more than 10% of their income on energy is considered energy poor."Hence the need to explain, to "see" through photography that a "cooling solution" unrelated to the use of air conditioning is possible, and is already being practiced somewhere, with results that emerge from Gaia Squarci's photos, putting together the creativity expressed by photographic art and scientific dissemination.
“This beautiful exhibition – explains Francesco Bongarrà, director of the Italian Cultural Institute in London – aims to stimulate reflection and create awareness about global warming, one of the most relevant themes of our time.We are happy that it has attracted the interest of experts who live in London, a city that considers itself a champion of sustainability."
After London – it will remain open until 2 October – 'The Cooling Solution' will be exhibited at Zoom Sauguenay Festival in Canada, and then returned to Italy, to Trani.
