2023 was a year of particular complexity, for a set of facts relating to the sector, on the one hand, and, on the other, internal to the Company which has experienced a governance change and a consequent one organizational review. As regards the sector in which Sogin operates, there has been an important recovery in public interest in civil nuclear power, as a result of the energy scenarios dictated by the international energy agenda and thanks to a series of political initiatives to which have been added initiatives from of private associations of supporters and experts on the topic, to which Sogin contributes to represent the value of technical skills that can naturally be put at the service of this renewed interest in the sector.
As regards the activities linked to the National Radioactive Waste Repository and the Technology Park (DNPT), after the delivery to the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, in July 2023, of the proposal for the National Charter of Areas Suitable for the location of the DNPT, it is followed, in December 2023, by the publication of the list of Eligible Areas with consequent publication, in February 2024, of the decree introducing the possibility of self-nominations.Furthermore, in the previous months, Legislative Decree no. 181/2023 required Sogin to prepare a direct incentive program for the benefit of the communities hosting the DNPT.
