ROME – The flamingos are returning to the area seized from the Camorra in the province of Caserta.The Lipu national president Alessandro Polinori and the deputy Francesco Emilio Borrelli, member of the Ecomafie commission, visited to the Soglitelle natural area in the municipality of Villa Literno (Caserta) accompanied by the mayor of Villa Literno Valerio Di Fraia, by the extraordinary commissioner of the Volturno Licola Falciano Reserve Authority Giovanni Sabatino and by Rino Esposito responsible for the Lipu Free Flight project. The area, former hunting reserve of the Casalesi clan who rented the bunkers from which to poachers shoot migratory birds, was taken from the Camorra with the Free Flight operation conducted by the Ecological Operations Unit of the Carabinieri.

The Lipu, together withEnte Riserve Volturno Licola Falciano and Igf for the scientific research part, it supervises and guarantees the public use of Soglitelle, with guided tours, environmental education workshops for schools.The objective is to create a new environmental oasis to defend the entire area from the still active poachers.Thanks to the ongoing biodiversity monitoring activity, the pink flamingos, griffon vultures and many protected species.“the paradigm of this place has changed, and this story – in Polinori's words – must be told to the new generations”.
