ROME – Thousands of citizens are walking on Via dei Fori Imperiali, epicenter of the first Roman ecological Sunday of the 2023-24 season. The Romans have stormed the streets of the center, reached this morning on public transport, on foot, by bicycle or with their dog.
NEXT ECOLOGICAL SUNDAYS
Today is the first of five car-free Sundays:the next ones are scheduled for December 3rd, January 14th, February 25th and March 24th.Various small musical events were held in via dei Fori Imperiali, concerts and parades of stilt walkers and masked characters such as Mary Poppins or the flower fairy.But also a demonstration in memory of the 174 road victims of 2023:under the Vittoriano they were placed on the ground hundreds of pairs of shoes, each with a small sign with the victim's name nearby, from pedestrians to cyclists.A minute of silence was also held.
“This is the city that responds to the challenge of achieving better air quality levels- commented the Capitoline councilor for the Environment Sabrina Alfonsima - but it was also important to be present at the 'Viva la strada' event to remember the road victims in Rome".
