ROME – Work has begun on the construction of the new Termini-Sapienza cycle path. The track under construction will be in a protected location. The Mobility Councilor of Rome Capital announced the news, Eugenio Patanè.“The Termini-Sapienza route is consistent with the objectives we have set ourselves of providing the city with infrastructure for pedestrians and cycling around the main framework, which is that of rail transport - explained the councilor - Our objective is to create another 150 kilometers of cycle paths by the end of the council, but beyond the quantity it is important to highlight the quality of the kilometers with a view to intermodal travel:the cycle path that will go from Termini station to the University City, for example, will be 750 meters long, but will have a significant impact on traffic in that area because it covers the first and last mile between an important public transport hub and a place frequented by young university students, from teaching and non-teaching staff".
The project, financed with 595 thousand euros, was entrusted to Roma Servizi per la Mobilità and due to geometric and functional characteristics it can be divided into three sections, which coincide with the road axes affected by the intervention:Viale delle Scienze, from Piazzale Aldo Moro to the intersection with Viale dell'Università;Viale dell'Università, from the intersection with Viale delle Scienze to that with Viale Pretoriano and Via del Castro Pretorio;Via del Castro Pretorio, from the intersection with Viale Pretoriano and Via del Castro Pretorio to Termini Station.“The first part of the works – added Patanè – is affecting the central traffic island of Viale dell'Università, from Viale Pretoriano towards Viale delle Scienze”.
