BETWEEN APRIL AND JULY 54 AGGRESSIONS, 8,000 SIGHTINGS
According to data updated by the ministry, the number of deaths and injuries caused by bears are increasing, with a number of attacks that in the April-July quarter reached a record high 54, with 7,967 cases of sightings confirmed.
THE ACORN PROBLEM
“Given the shortage of acorns expected for this autumn, which bears usually feed on to prepare for hibernation, particularly in the Tohoku region, it is possible that the animals are encouraged to wander increasing the possibility of meetings with people and human settlements", reads the note released by the ministry.
