ROME - A petition to stop the 'deer massacre' decided by the Abruzzo Region.The WWF is mobilizing by collecting online signatures to block the decision of the regional council which, with a resolution dated 8 August 2024, "has the killing of approximately 500 deer was approved which will be carried out by qualified hunters and will take place in two areas of the Abruzzo area of ​​L'Aquila.A decision that truly leaves us astonished, both on a naturalistic and emotional level - reports the Panda association - satisfy a small group of hunters, towards whom the president and vice-president of the Abruzzo Region show ever greater subservience, the vision of an Abruzzo capable of coexistence with wild fauna and, above all, a model of environmental education and biodiversity protection that has been laboriously outlined over the years is betrayed.In Abruzzo some towns have built their identity image on the presence of deer and have made it a reason for tourism promotion.For all citizens and visitors to the Abruzzo area, these animals represent a heritage of our land and are the very symbol of the nature that reigns in these places and which makes our region known and appreciated everywhere:they are not targets for hunters.Deer have the right to continue to live peacefully and protected in our mountains."
