NAPLES – “The environment and peace are an indissoluble union. The protection of human rights, the protection of every citizen's right to live a peaceful existence and the protection of the environment and marine and terrestrial ecosystems are not distant issues."This is what the president of Dire explained to Dire Environment Sea Italy Alessandro Botti in celebrating the International Day of Peace with an event, from the theme “Sea inside.A sea of peace“, which was held in Naples, ppromoted by Ambiente Mare Italia – AMI ETS in collaboration with the Circolo Nautico Posillipo, the RAM, Rinascita Artistica del Mezzogiorno and the Accademia Federico II.The event was created thanks to the contribution of Costa Crociere and the support of the Mutti company.
An evening of information and entertainment hosted by Lello La Pietra, journalist and television author, with the participation of institutions and personalities from the world of science and entertainment with the aim of informing and raising awareness on the topic of the relationship between man and environment for a climate of peace.During the initiative, land activities and projects of Ambiente Mare Italia in the area with the aim of enhancing the natural and cultural heritage of the Neapolitan city and to spread a new culture of respect for the environment and sustainable development.
“We wanted to celebrate the start of the activities of the Naples delegation, which has been active in the area for a year and attentive – Botti recalled – both to the environment and to the grandiose landscape, naturalistic and artistic heritage of the city of Naples, which will be an important center of the Ambiente Mare Italia Green Week which will be held in April".
“In our city – said Paolo Papa, AMI delegate of Naples – we thought of organizing training and environmental education activities for our young people:the city needs kids who respect their sea, this sea that washes our coast and unfortunately does not always have the suitable criteria for bathing. Therefore, training with AMI Scuola, with AMI Natura and AMI Ambassador, an initiative by Ami to ensure that our young people can be trained and participate in training activities themselves. Our hope is that we can return to enjoying this magnificent sea that bathes our city."
The Naples group has already "adopted a small beach in Bagnoli, which unfortunately is still not suitable for swimming. We are committed to taking care of it - said Pope -, to denounce its abuses, trying to make it usable for citizens".
On stage there were performances by Giovanna La Pietra, Modestino Preziosi, European and world champion of Maratona, Bruno Nappi, director of un Posto al Sole, Carmen Famiglietti, dancer and dance teacher and the rap duo "Delate" in a song dedicated to the sea and the environment.
The councilor with responsibility for the Sea brought institutional greetings from the Municipality of Naples Edoardo Cosenza, for which "the associations are a continuous stimulus for us administrators. Their role is very important and the presence of the Municipality in this initiative bears witness to this."“Naples – observed Cosenza – is well known in the world for its sea, but then it is possible to enjoy little of this sea.The Municipality's effort is certainly to make it more usable, but also to improve its conditions. In reality for long stretches our sea is not polluted, but considered excellent, in some areas such as Gaiola the seahorses have returned, however both in the Bagnoli area and on the opposite side, towards San Giovanni a Teduccio, there are still problems of pollution. We are working hard to make the beaches usable, and we are succeeding, but for the sea it takes more time.We are working on it.Today many tourists also come here for the sea, we must be able to offer it."
Also speaking at the event were Aldo Campagnola, president of the Circolo Posillipo, Antonio Giordano, scientist and president of the Sbarro Institute in Philadelphia;Simona Fraschetti, marine biologist and full professor of Ecology at the Federico II University of Naples, Giuseppe Gambardella, consul of Benin in Naples, Dario Marco Lepore, president of RAM – Artistic Rebirth of the South, Ulderico Dardano, professor of the Mathematics department of Federico II University, as well as Salvatore Serio, Costa Crociere business partner.
“Environmental issues – highlighted Serio – are evidently very dear to us because first of all the sea is the main element on which we act, so evidently there is particular attention and interest in its protection”.“We are involved through the Costa Foundation – he remarked – in various projects of both a social and environmental nature.I want to remember, in particular, the beautiful project of the Coast Guards through which we involved over 4,300 institutions throughout Italy with the aim of safeguarding the territory, the beaches and the sea, given the fragility of our coasts. Students and teachers can adopt a stretch of sea, clean it, make observations and surveys over the course of the year and then upload this information onto a platform made available by Enea, Olpa and the Acquario di Genova foundation, scientific partners of the project, with the patronage of the Ministry of the Environment and Infrastructure and with the collaboration of the Coast Guard.Over 70 thousand students throughout Italy were involved, with 2,600 kilometers of coastline adopted."
