The president of Anbi:"We need an extraordinary maintenance intervention across the entire Italian territory, followed by an infrastructure plan that is able to collect water when it falls heavily, and then make it available to the territories when it is missing."

ROME – “We have passed from the costume to the down jacket in 48 hours, and for the umpteenth time we record dyears to things and people:this is no longer an extraordinary emergency, this, Unfortunately, it's the norm”. Francesco Vincenzi, president of Anbi (National Association of Land Reclamation, Irrigation and Improvement), makes a reflection after the extreme meteorological events that have affected central-northern Italy in recent days.

Our approach to climate change must change– he comments to the Dire news agency – just as the paradigms of those who work in the field of territorial protection, of those who make political choices and of simple citizens must change. We cannot continue to treat the damage, also because the damage is now predictable."

For this reason Vincenzi asks that "an extraordinary maintenance intervention be planned and carried out for the entire Italian territory, followed by an infrastructure plan for the country that is able to collect water when it falls intensely, and then make it available to the territories when it is missing. The alternation of drought and floods is now, unfortunately, our new normal, and this is happening before everyone's eyes."

According to the president of Anbi, in fact, "this new way of manifesting atmospheric phenomena finds a territory that is built up and not sufficiently equipped to receive these water bombs. These are not normal rains - he explains - today in the north we have flooded towns, landslides, structures in crisis. We are ready."Hence the request for greater planning that aims to prevent, and not simply contain, the damage.“We must build roads and bridges differently – concludes Vincenzi – Our consortium is convinced that this is not an emergency, it is a new normality”.
