BOLOGNA – Objective:save the Goro and Comacchio farms, in whose waters over half of the national clams are produced.Summit at the Prefecture of Ferrara between local authorities, the Region and the extraordinary commissioner for the blue crab emergency, Enrico Caterino.

"As Region we will collaborate with the commissioner with seriousness and responsibility.The blue crab is a serious emergency and extraordinary tools are needed to combat it, as we have been saying for more than a year now.And greater resources than those allocated to date by the national government. The Region has already invested two million euros”.Thus the regional councilor for Agriculture and Fisheries, Alessio Mammi, at the end of an operational meeting held today in Ferrara at the Prefecture.Guests of the prefect of Ferrara, Massimo Marchesiello, the meeting was attended by extraordinary commissioner for the blue crab emergency, Enrico Caterino, the mayors of Goro, Maria Bugnoli, from Comacchio, Pierluigi Negri, the president of the Province of Ferrara, Gianni Michele Padovani, and associations representing fishing companies.

“WE NEED TO SAVE THE CLAMS FARMING IN GORO AND COMACCHIO”

“The extraordinary commissioner - continues the councilor - must be put in a position to operate fully from a regulatory point of view and in the areas of intervention because we need to act quickly and work concretely to save the clam farms and aquaculture of the Goro and Comacchio marinas.These territories are a great asset for the country: 55% of the clams nationwide are produced here and it is a fundamental occupation that also has great social value for the communities that live in the area".

“A HOMOGENEOUS NATIONAL STRATEGY IS FUNDAMENTAL”

“È a homogeneous national strategy is essential to proceed with the collection and disposal of the crab.The Region for its part - concludes Mammi again - has provided in the 2024 budget a regional compensation of 1.5 euros per kilo for companies that will undertake the collection, up to one million euros in total contributions, in addition to the million already allocated in 2023".

NEW MEETING WITH THE COMMISSIONER IN BOLOGNA NEXT WEEK

The first days of next week will be held in the Region a new meeting with Commissioner Caterino in Bologna and the acting president, Irene Priolo, to deal with the emergency.
The Commissioner's willingness to draw up a plan, with the contribution of the subjects involved, for the development of a national strategy in agreement with the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture with responsibility for fisheries.Mammi finally underlined the importance of support businesses in the coming months and in the long term “with tax breaks, mortgage suspension and moratoriums and with the reduction in labor costs, as well as putting companies in a position to make investments to be competitive with other European territories”.
