In Milan, volunteer vets for homeless dogs

In Milan there will be volunteer veterinarians to provide free assistance to homeless dogs in case of illnesses and injuries.

• Save the dogs and other animals completes its project to assist the dogs of the homeless in Milan.
• With the collaboration of the Order of Veterinary Doctors of Milan, there will be volunteer doctors to assist and help animals in need.
• And a night shelter is also planned for homeless people with their dogs during periods of excessive heat or intense cold.

From now on, in Milan, i dogs homeless people will be able to count on free veterinary assistance.With the support ofOrder of veterinary doctors of the Lombard metropolis, and the participation of veterinarians as volunteers in the street units, an important piece is added to the project of Save the dogs and other animals aimed at guaranteeing aid to the homeless and their four-legged friends.

The presence of a veterinarian in the outings, together with the qualified operators of the association, has a double value:allows you to carry out a first screening on animals living on the street with their humans by evaluating their health status and the possible need for tests or checks, and improves relation with people who are heartened by the attention and medical interest towards their four-legged friends, often the only stable relationship in their lives.

An important project for the well-being of dogs

The Order of Veterinary Doctors of Milan thus joins the project Street friends, life companions.All with the collaboration of the street units of Save the dogs and other animals which are strengthened by the presence of volunteer veterinarians able to offer continuous healthcare to the four-legged friends of the homeless.Among other new features:

• agreement with Taxi pet for the transport of animals in case of need;
• service of mobile grooming to ensure the hygiene of dogs without having them move.

“From the beginning we were certain that veterinary assistance was one of the key points of the project, in the interest of the animals and the community:a dog followed, vaccinated and, when possible, sterilized, represents, in fact, an advantage for everyone.For this reason we have activated the search for volunteer veterinarians and are making agreements with veterinary facilities which, understanding the importance of the project, want to collaborate with us by offering subsidized agreements.The presence of street vets and the support of the Order will be fundamental in helping one of the weakest components of our society", he declared Ermanno Giudici, responsible for the Italian projects of Save the dogs and other animals.

The association is also in contact with the Municipality of Milan to address the issue of dormitories and wants to be able to identify a concrete possibility to guarantee access to homeless people with their dogs during the coldest and most difficult periods of the year.
