The family of is getting bigger and bigger fashion brand who take sides in favor of animal rights.Only a handful of days ago the Valentino fashion house announced its definitive farewell to the use of animal fur in its collections;immediately afterwards Brunello Cucinelli also made it known through the non-profit organisation Pete (People for the ethical treatment of animals) that all its garments would be fur-free.But which are the fashion brands that have embraced the idea of one more ethical, sustainable and cruelty-free fashion?Let's make a quick point.
The list of fashion brands that no longer use animal fur
1.Giorgio Armani
Among the forerunners in the definitive farewell to the use of animal fur is Giorgio Armani, who from the autumn-winter 2016/2017 season has committed to completely abolishing it from all the group's collections (Giorgio Armani, Armani Collezioni, Emporio Armani, Armani Jeans, Armani Junior, EA7 and Armani Home).According to the designer, "the technological progress achieved in recent years allows us to have valid alternatives available which make the use of cruel practices towards animals useless".
2.Gucci

A few months after Gucci's announcement, another big name in the fashion sector backtracked, declaring that from 2018 it would no longer use any type of animal fur in favor of more innovative solutions:we are talking about Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo, the footwear brand acquired by the group, which has focused heavily on researching new techniques capable of replacing animal fur.
4.Versace
"Fur?Enough.I don't want to kill animals for fashion anymore.It doesn't seem right to me."With these words Donatella Versace also declared her intention to embrace politics in 2018 fur-free and to say goodbye to fur.And it would do so starting from the following year, revolutionizing the offer of the brand which historically has always sold clothing made with fur and animal skin.
5.Chanel
“The future of high-end products will come from the know-how of what our atelier is capable of doing.”Thus Bruno Pavlovsky, president of Chanel, declared in December 2018 that the maison would stop producing clothing and accessories made of fur and exotic skins, as well as leathery skins such as crocodile, lizard and snake, stating that he wanted to maintain high standards ethical.The decision was also taken thanks to pressure from animal rights activists.
6.Coach
Coach, an American brand owned by the group Tapestry, announced in 2018 that it would stop using fur in its garments and accessories and that their complete disappearance would occur starting from the 2019 autumn collection.“For several years, Coach has been committed to promoting sustainability practices with the introduction of our corporate responsibility goals in 2015 – said Joshua Schulman, president and CEO of the brand, in a press release –.At the time we laid the foundations to prioritize social and environmental initiatives.The decision to go towards production fur-free It's a truly significant step for the brand."
7.Dkny and Donna Karan
“Continuing our work for Donna Karan and Dkny, we have decided to eliminate fur from the collections of both brands, starting from autumn 2019.”These are the words of Morris Goldfarb, CEO of the group G-III Apparel group, of which both labels are part.The decision, linked to the long-standing relationship with the Humane society of the United States, which fights for the protection of animals, predicted a complete stop starting from 2019.
8.Prada
Prada's turn came in 2019, when the group announced it would stop using animal fur within the collections of its brands Prada, Miu Miu, Church's and Car Shoe, starting from 2020.The intention was to promote increasingly ethical and sustainable fashion, which protects animal rights.And as Miuccia Prada, at the helm of the maison together with her husband Patrizio Bertelli, explained, “the research and development of alternative materials will allow the company to explore new frontiers of creativity and respond, at the same time, to the demand for more responsible products ”.
9.Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga
To be added to the other brands of the group Kering who had already chosen to safeguard animal rights in the past - Bottega Veneta abandoned fur for almost two decades -, in April 2021 there were Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga.The group of François-Henri Pinault worked ten years in tandem with the Humane society international and with the Humane society of the United States, companies that fight for the protection of animals, to achieve the goal of becoming fur-free.Of the French group, only two brands are missing from the list that have not yet announced policies that go in this direction:Brijuni and Saint-Laurent.
10.Valentine
The announcement from Valentino, the fashion brand founded in 1960 by Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti, was made on 18 May 2021, making it known that the decision is part of the process of redefining its competitive positioning.Well, Valentino will become fur-free starting from 2022 and consequently the fur company Valentino Polar, which is based in Milan and has been owned by Valentino since 2018, will end production at the end of 2021.The last collection to include fur will therefore be the fall/winter 2021-22.The brand also made it known that it is already looking for and evaluating other materials that can replace animal fur, with a view to greater attention to sustainability and animal rights.
11.Brunello Cucinelli
The latest to be added to the now long list is Brunello Cucinelli:the king of cashmere has confirmed that he will no longer use fur in future collections.The announcement comes from Peta, which has had a fruitful dialogue with Cucinelli.The decision also comes as a function of an increasingly targeted corporate strategy in support of sustainability which constituted the "crucial factor" of the turning point.
