From 19 to 25 April, a week of events to encourage the fashion sector to be more ethical and sustainable.Among the initiatives also those of Ta-Daan.

Like every year for the past eight years now, there is a date that Fashion revolution strives to remember. And it is April 24th, that is, the day on which, in 2013, the collapse of the Rana Plaza building, in Bangladesh. One of the most dramatic episodes in the fashion world, which caused the death of 1,138 workers and injured another 2,500.Well, since then the global movement which aims to raise consumer awareness of their purchasing habits and fights for a more fair and ethical fashion industry, has organized a week of events, initiatives, talks and round tables to discuss the changes that the sector must put in place to be more inclusive and more respectful of the environment and people. This year the Fashion revolution week is on the calendar from 19 to 25 April and aims to tell the stories and give voice to all those who have been affected by the change, to put pressure on those who have the power to implement this change.

Estimates speak of an increase of 81 percent by 2030 clothing production – with a huge impact on the entire supply chain – of an ever-increasing demand for agricultural land for the production of cotton, viscose, wool, rubber, leather and others natural fibres;the data highlights how every year 150 million trees are cut down to be transformed into cellulosic fabrics, not to mention how thelivestock farming constitutes the main factor deforestation in the Amazon. With the problems associated with it:the felling of forests increases the risk of disease transmission from wildlife to humans, increasing the danger of future pandemics. This is why this year Fashion Revolution asks the fashion industry and governments to recognize the interconnection between human rights and the rights of nature.

The revolution therefore begins here:from a rethinking of the relationships between human beings, towards the clothes we wear and the nature that surrounds us.Because, according to the movement, the world as we know it today is nothing more than the fruit of centuries of colonialism and globalized exploitation, which derive from a strongly Western-centric vision of global interests. It's time to bring back the human rights at the center of the discussion, and living on a healthy planet is one of them.

Ta-Daan's initiatives

Among the many initiatives of Fashion Revolution Week 2021, those of. are worthy of note Ta-Daan, a startup born in December 2018 from the idea and passion of five guys - Roberta Ligossi, Tommaso Migliore, Costanza Tomba, Sara Pianori and Valeria Zanirato - who wanted to create a digital space to bring back thecraftsmanship, no longer seen as an ancient and "uncool" production method, but rather as a tool for spreading values such as creativity, uniqueness And sustainability. All with a pop and innovative narrative capable of attracting the attention of even the youngest.“For Fashion Revolution Week we have a rich schedule of contents – explains Roberta Ligossi –.Every day we will tackle a different topic, with the participation of many guests and with workshops. We will talk about modern mending and its various techniques, about circular economy applied to fashion, slow fashion and sustainable materials, how to recognize them and how to take care of them".

If it is true that the revolution begins from our wardrobe, why not start from Diy, an acronym that stands for "Do it yourself", meaning a fashion that focuses on manual skill and everyone's creativity to reduce the impact on the environment, reduce waste and extend the life of clothes.

“We have always encouraged our community to mend and create their own garments – continues Ligossi –, as a political gesture of revolt against a world increasingly dominated by excessive consumption and standardisation”.A great starting point.
