Steps
-
Start by finding an object to wrap the yarn around. You can use a small book, a CD or DVD case, a piece of stiff cardboard, or an old address book.Any object measuring approximately 12x17cm is fine, based on the length of the fringe you want to make.
-
Start at the top and wrap the yarn around the stand. Wrap it several times, but no more than you can cut together with a pair of scissors.Finish at the top.
- Wrap the wire not too tightly, to make subsequent cutting easier.
-
'Cut the thread from the support.
-
'Cut the thread on the top, as shown in the example.
-
Now you have many pieces of wire, the same length.
-
Decide how many pieces of yarn to use together.
- In this example and for this scarf two threads were used together.
-
Fold the pieces of wire in half neatly, as in the example.
-
Always start on the right side of the piece, with the right side facing up. To figure out which side is right, take your starting chain and place the starting thread on the left. This way the right side of the work will remain on top.
-
Insert the crochet hook into the first loop bottom up.
-
Take the two pieces of wire folded in half, take them with the crochet hook and pass them through the ring.
-
'Take the ends of the two threads and pass them through the ring created by the bending of the threads themselves. You can also help yourself with crochet.
-
Pull the ends so as to secure the fringe well, but without tightening too much. Pull the two ends evenly.
-
Continue in the same way, until you have added as many pieces of fringe as you want. Trim the ends to make them all the same length, if you want.Advertising
Advice
- Adding the fringe lengthens the final work somewhat.Take this into consideration when making your knitting or crochet work.
- A fringe of the same color (or the same colors, if the project has more than one), is a great way to use leftover thread.
- Use as many pieces of thread as you want, you are limited, unless the work you want to decorate supports too thick fringes.
- Try adding a contrasting fringe.
- You don't necessarily need knitting or crochet for this project. You can add fringe to a rug, a piece of paper, any piece of fabric, a lampshade, or even wrap it around a dowel, wire, cord or rope. All you need is a holder with rigid rings or holes.
