There is less and less left until the start of the second edition of Running Italy for animals, the unprecedented sporting feat of the vegan Olympic athlete Riccardo Bugari, which from 22 to 28 September will travel across Italy from coast to coast with the aim of raising funds to support the legal actions of Being Animals, one of the most important and accredited organizations in Europe in terms of animal protection in the farms.
After the media success and the important contribution made with the first edition of the project, this year Bugari will travel across Italy from the Tyrrhenian coast to the Adriatic, from Ostia to San Benedetto del Tronto, in seven days, with an average of around 80 km per day.The athlete and volunteer ofessereanimali will travel in total 544 km crossing the Apennine chain, with a difference in altitude of almost ten thousand metres.
The route includes departure from the port area of Ostia and arrival in Bugari's hometown, San Benedetto del Tronto, with a final celebratory benefit event. This year too, several volunteers fromessereanimalie will run alongside him anyone who wants can follow him part of the journey and give your support.
I want to transform my sweat and energy into concrete actions in defense of animals.
With its investigations and legal actions, Being Animals is on the front line for report and stop mistreatment suffered by animals in intensive farming. In 2023 alone, the association reported ten farms and finally saw the trial against them begin “the breeding of horrors”, in which a sow had been killed with a hammer.
“In September 2023 I fulfilled a dream. In 22 days I traveled an ultramarathon a day covering the whole of Italy, lengthwise, from Santa Maria di Leuca to Milan. It is an achievement of which I am particularly proud:I'm an Olympic athlete and I'm used to high levels of physical and mental stress, but I'm also a volunteer fromessereanimali and what truly made my undertaking unforgettable was transforming my sweat and energy into concrete actions in defense of animals. This year I will complete the work by traveling across Italy from coast to coast, and the goal is always the same:support Being Animals and, through them, the animals exploited by the meat industry. This is what motivates me in this extraordinary undertaking:knowing that I will be able to make a difference for them,” Bugari said.
This year the project is supported by Light shop, a company specialized in the sale of loose products and with the returnable vacuum system.“We have chosen to support Being Animali because we believe in the importance of raising awareness in the community towards more conscious and respectful choices.Their mission to end factory farming and promote a nonviolent food system resonates deeply with our values,” he said Cinzia Vaccaneo, president of Negozio Leggero.
