It seems official now: Alexander McQueen And Balenciaga have banned them from their production furs, thus joining Gucci and Bottega Veneta. Kering, owner of the two luxury brands, announced it in the document 2020 Universal registration, which reads:“Most of the houses in the group do not use fur.Even Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen have banned them from their collections."There is also one pushing in this direction growing awareness of public opinion on animal welfare and on the environmental impact of intensive farming, which is reflected in a decrease in demand.
A clear message
The group of François-Henri Pinault worked ten years in tandem with the Humane society international and with the Humane society of the United States, companies that fight for animal protection, to achieve the goal of becoming fur-free.“Every time a big fashion name like Alexander McQueen or Balenciaga abandons fur, it sends a clear message:animal hair has no place in modern society,” he argues Kitty Block, CEO of the organization for i animal rights. The decision comes as proof of the fact that consumer interest is increasingly directed towards issues related to sustainability:public opinion is moving away from fur to embrace alternative solutions that look to innovative materials with low environmental impact.
The brands that have abandoned fur
In the now long list of brands that have chosen to protect animal rights there are Armani, Versace, Michael Kors, Jimmy Choo, Prada, Chanel, Dkny and Burberry.Bottega Veneta, also owned by Kering, has abandoned fur for almost two decades.Since 2018 they are also disappeared from Gucci collections who joined the Fur free alliance, an international coalition of more than 50 organizations fighting for this.Only two brands of the French group are missing from the appeal and they have not yet announced any fur-free policies: Brioni And Saint Laurent.
