Bad weather arriving in the north, red alert in Lombardy

Wind and rain are coming.Civil protection has issued an orange alert notice in Trentino

ROME – In the next few hours a disturbed system of Atlantic origin will reach our country, causing a rapid but intense phase of bad weather with abundant and persistent rainfall over most of the central-northern regions, also accompanied by a marked reinforcement of south-western ventilation over part of the Centre-North.

Based on the available forecasts, the Department of Civil Protection in agreement with the regions involved - which are responsible for activating the civil protection systems in the territories concerned - has issued a warning of adverse weather conditions.The weather phenomena, impacting on the different areas of the country, could determine hydrogeological and hydraulic criticalities which are reported, in a national summary, in the national criticality and alert bulletin which can be consulted on the Department website (www.protezionecivile.gov.it).

The warning predicts widespread and persistent rainfall, including downpours or thunderstorms, across Liguria and Lombardy from today evening, Wednesday 9 October; strong to gale-force winds from the southern quadrants over Liguria and Emilia-Romagna, especially Apennine sectors.Furthermore, from the early morning of tomorrow, Thursday 10 October, widespread and persistent rainfall, including showers or thunderstorms, is expected in Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Veneto, Trentino Alto Adige and Friuli Venezia Giulia.The phenomena will be accompanied by heavy showers, frequent electrical activity, local hailstorms and strong gusts of wind.Strong to gale-force winds from the southern quadrants expected in Tuscany, especially coastal sectors, Marche and Umbria, especially Apennine sectors.

Storm surges along exposed coasts.On the basis of the ongoing and expected phenomena, it was evaluated for tomorrow, Thursday 10 October, red alert for hydraulic risk and hydrogeological risk in sectors of Lombardy.Orange alert for part of Lombardy and all of Trentino Alto Adige.Yellow alert has also been assessed for the entire territory of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Liguria and the basins of Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany and Umbria.
