How to Light a Cigar

The best method to properly light a cigar is to use a torch lighter powered by butane gas. Many people think that the heat of a torch lighter is too intense for cigars, but this is not the case. This is because many people who know how to use a torch lighter are unable to properly light a cigar using this tool.Among disposable lighters the 'D-jeep' is probably the best for this purpose. It is equipped with a flame intensity regulator and the flame produced is very stable, without flickering or bad smell, as happens with other cheap lighters that use low quality gas.Butane gas is easily available, and burns very well with almost no odor.

  1. Using any other ignition method (paper matches or other types of lighters) won't initially give you much flavor. After the first few puffs this negative effect should pass.
  2. Support the cigar between your fingers while bringing the tip inclined 45° degrees into the flame (if you do not use wooden matches or a butane lighter, keep the cigar away from the flame) while inhaling in small puffs, until the tip is of a beautiful uniform red color. You can gently blow on the tip of the cigar to make sure it has lit evenly.
  3. Remember that cigar smoking is an activity that should be done for fun and not to get nicotine, even if you may sometimes feel a temporary feeling of dizziness.

Advice

  • If you want to use matches to light your cigar, wait for the initial flame to dissipate to prevent the cigar from acquiring an unpleasant sulfur taste.
  • Don't breathe in cigar smoke like you do cigarettes, or it will most likely cause you to gag.
