Merits, startup born in Italy and part of the ecosystem LifeGate Way, he launched a digital platform to encourage participation in social and environmental projects.Between commitment and gamification, those who participate in these programs - promoted by public bodies, companies, non-profit organizations and local communities - receive tokens, namely merits, to spend to support the circular economy and sustainable purchases, promoting a concrete and measurable approach to responsibility social.Actions that make money points, levels and awards they range from volunteering to promoting sustainable lifestyles.

How Merits was born

Founded by Roberto Sanlorenzo in 2016 as benefit company and certified B Corp in 2022, Merits has a clear vision:promote awareness and individual responsibility. Through its active engagement approach, the startup delivers tools and platforms who use the gamification to encourage virtuous behavior and precisely detect the impact generated.As Sanlorenzo explains, “Merits was born with the vision of a society built by sustainability heroes who consciously choose daily actions of care and responsibility towards themselves, the community and the environment.”

The company's focal point is its proprietary technology platform that unites physical and digital through mechanisms gamification tailor-made for each project.“We are focusing on two projects:one is an API (application programming interface) to certify and reward any type of behavior by acquiring data from partners, the other is a more complex and long-term project to evaluate and communicate the social impact generated by individuals, a LinkedIn of the sustainability,” explained the founder.

The most important projects

Among the projects it stands out Guardians of Beauty, an initiative aimed at improving the urban decor of Milan and promoting social integration, involving vulnerable subjects. Reach out to Me, instead, provides tutoring activities aimed at migrant women as soon as you arrive in the Lombardy capital.Merits contributed to the co-design process and the management of the motivational and reward dimension, facilitating integration and the creation of a social network for the participants. Play Milan 0-18 is a cultural gamification project that involved over 1,650 young people in volunteering and cultural activities, for a total of 7,071 hours.Finally, with I prefer the bike, Merits has encouraged the use of bicycles in the municipality of Settimo Torinese:in all, the participants traveled over 9 thousand kilometres.
