ROME - Bring out the duvets and heavy coats. The cold is coming. And it will be a real 'arctic saber strike' (as the experts call it):the mild temperatures of this period will drop by almost 10 degrees and the snow even at low altitude.
“The polar irruption is confirmed – say the meteorologists of ilmeteo.it – from next week the cold will arrive to bring a real anticipation of winter. And be careful, because the subsequent formation of a cyclone will trigger an intense phase of bad weather in Italy with lots of rain and even snow down to very low altitudes.Already from Monday 11 November a vast area of low pressure, filled with polar air, located between Norway and Sweden, will pilot very cold and unstable air currents towards the Mediterranean basin. This type of configuration, in addition to bringing a drastic drop in temperatures, risks being rather insidious for our country, as demonstrated by various events that have occurred in the past:the entry of cold air will in fact favor the formation of a real cyclone on our seas."
“On Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th November the cyclonic vortex could likely deepen between Sardinia and the Tyrrhenian Sea, giving rise to a decidedly intense phase of bad weather”.And the experts warn:“Given the contrasts between completely different air masses, the risk of strong ones cannot be ruled out thunderstorms and local storms.According to the latest update, the Central-Northern regions will be most at risk."
SNOW COMING AT VERY LOW ALTITUDE:THE AREAS INVOLVED
“Given the expected drop in temperatures, some snowfall up to i 700 meters above sea level in Piedmont/Liguria and just above i 1300/1400 meters on the central-northern Apennines. In the South and on the two major islands, however, a second cyclone will be in action (Tuesday 12th) which will cause quite a few storms before moving eastwards", we read.
Thanks to the drop in temperature and the intensity of rainfall, snow will arrive in the Alps, up to low odds for the period:on Valle d'Aosta, Piedmont, Liguria, Lombardy, Trentino Alto Adige, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia the flakes will be able to descend as far as possible below 700/800 meters. At high altitudes a truly abundant load is arriving, up to over 1 meter above 2000 meters in the Western Alps;very good news for the environment in general and for all winter sports lovers;locations such as Breuil Cervinia (AO), Tonale Pass (B.S.), Livigno (SO), Sestriere (TO) e Canazei (TN) are therefore ready to get their fill of snow.
