Steps
-
Bring a long rope into a circular shape so that the ends are close together.
-
Pull one end over the other so they overlap by about 10cm. The overlapping ends should now be parallel to each other.
-
With your right hand, pinch the two ends of the string together to the right of where they overlap.
-
With your left hand, fold the free (left) end over itself to the left and pinch it with your right hand where it meets the other pieces of string. Just make a small twist that leaves plenty of extra rope at the end, which you will use to finish the knot.
-
With your left hand, take the free end of the ring you just made.
-
Moving back to the left, wrap the free end of the rope around all three layers of rope. Do this until you run out of string or almost cover the entire small ring.Try not to cross the string you wrap or it will look messy.
-
Pass the end of the rope through the small part of the loop that remains, then grasp it with your left hand.
-
With your right hand, slide the left-wrapped rope over the remaining loop to close. You will probably have to close the right side of the ring big with right ring and little fingers to do so.
-
Slide the finished knot on to try it out. It should move easily.Be careful not to let it slip past the free end of the rope.
-
Turn the rope and repeat the process on the other end (the free one) if you want. This will leave you with two sliding knots that can be moved closer or further apart as needed, to make a wide or narrow loop.
