  1. Just as its name says, a 'simple knot' is probably the easiest to tie, as well as being the first one people learn to tie.
  2. The 'bowline knot' is the simplest rescue knot known and is practiced at one end of a rope. The ring can be secured around an object, such as around a pole, or passed through a hole, or hoop, before being tightened.
  3. 'Square or square knot', is a simple knot suitable for temporary tying.
  4. The 'boatman's knot' is a fairly simple knot, used to attach a rope to a vertical anchor point, such as trees or poles.
