Being grounded sucks, right?Continue reading and you will discover how to have fun even if you are forced to stay at home.
-
If you have time between when you get home from school and when your parents get home, start thinking about what you can do during the evening, like read a book or listen to music. If you want to stay out after school for a while, tell your parents that you have to stay after class for an interview with some teacher.
-
Hide your things. We know, parents will hide everything from you, iPod, cell phone and anything else they can find.If you have a cardboard box or shoe box, put your cell phone, iPod, Gameboy there and hide everything under the covers of your bed. This works best if you have thick blankets or a duvet, so if that's the case, look for a thick enough blanket.
-
If you miss something, like swimming, cry and cry and hold your breath until, hopefully, your parents get tired and say: "Okay, go ahead." Don't put too much hope in this method though. Its success depends on how manipulable your parents are, and if they aren't you will only end up making your situation even worse.
-
If you're lucky and have a stereo in your room, they might seize the plug (if it's separable). In this case, take the plug from the living room stereo or a television to still have your music with you. They probably won't try to hide the entire stereo from you (this is because parents seem to enjoy seeing that you haven't noticed something missing, so they wouldn't hide something that big from you) but if they do, or if they have done so in the past, Hide your CDs and iPod to prevent them from being found.
-
Hide a CD player (which you can buy cheaply at a garage sale, and which is small enough to hide easily) if you use CDs, and use it at night to avoid your parents catching you in the act. Be careful not to buy one with too loud buttons but your parents, if they have super hearing, could still hear when you open/close the CD door or when you press the buttons if you are not careful.
-
If and when your parents leave the house, use that time to watch TV, but remember the channel they turned it off on.
-
Use the computer secretly if you can... but remember to hide every trace! You can also use computers at school if you want, but remember that some schools do not allow computers to be used for anything other than educational purposes.
-
Stay up late and watch TV secretly -- on this site you will find many guides on how to stay up late.
-
If you have a video camera, you can make videos of yourself dancing to silly songs and upload them to YouTube when you're no longer in detention.
-
If you don't have a video camera, dancing to the silliest songs is still the most fun thing you can do alone, all you need to do is look in the mirror to have fun!
-
Write something on the bathroom mirror using a bar of soap. Things like:"Help!I'm being held hostage by adults!" will make your parents smile and soften their stance.
-
Turn things upside down. Are there any photographs on the living room shelf?Place one upside down.Hang up the calendars, in short, use your imagination.
-
Invite your friends when your parents aren't there. Use your sister or brother's cell phone if yours has been confiscated.
-
When your parents are away, take your things back and use them until they return, but remember to put them back exactly where they were and leave no traces.Advertising
-
Do sports, go to your city arena to swim or use the gym. It might be worth getting a monthly membership, and some gyms will give you a discount if one of your parents is already a member. If you don't want to spend money, go for a run or long walks (especially if you have a dog)
-
It probably doesn't sound fun to you, but do the housework. Just make sure the house is clean when your parents get home, maybe wash the car or do some other big job. It's something that should be done anyway, and your parents could reduce your sentence for good behavior.
-
Kitchen. Start with something simple like cupcakes and if you're grounded for a long time you can progress to making more complex dishes until you get pretty good at it.DON'T leave the kitchen messy or your parents won't be happy.
-
Build items. If you're handy, build something out of scrap materials.Alternatively, if you're good with a needle and thread, sort out clothes that no longer fit or use scraps to make a pillow or something else.
-
Play. Play with cards, with video games, with your old toys from when you were little.
-
Laws.
-
Study or review. If you're being grounded for bad grades, try to do something to change the situation. If your grades go up, your parents will probably cancel the punishment.
-
Watch TV or some movies. Watch a lot of movies, if you don't have them on DVD you can always watch them online.Watch the old cartoons that you liked so much as a child. If you have box sets of any series, check them out.Otherwise, watch what's on TV.
-
Redecorate your room. If your room isn't on its best days, move the furniture, stick posters and photos on the wall, or make a collage to hang with photos, tickets from concerts you've been to, and things like that.
-
Sleep. Use this extra time to catch up on lost sleep and laze around all day.I don't recommend doing this every day, however.
-
Find new hobbies. For example, if you are a motorcycle enthusiast, buy old engine components and try to rebuild it.If your hobbies are closer to knitting or similar, try doing more difficult things and maybe making sweaters or other clothing.
-
Pamper yourself. It's more for girls, but boys can follow this advice too.Take a long bath instead of a shower.Take care of your nails, wear a face mask and everything else.
-
If you are grounded during testing period, make sure you get any homework submitted on time.Advertising
-
Think about why you did the things that landed you in detention. Realize that youth ends quickly, and that maybe being forced to stay at home isn't really a punishment.Perhaps it is an opportunity to reflect, and to acquire certain habits that will make both your parents and yourself proud of you.
-
Write a list of reasons why it's worth it to improve and stop getting into trouble.
-
Put yourself in your parents' shoes, and realize that they probably felt the need to punish you because you didn't follow their rules.
-
Focus on your hobbies and do things that make you feel good about yourself. Learn from your mistakes.Make your parents proud by making them aware that you have learned from your mistakes.Advertising
Advice
- If your parents have forbidden you to leave your room and you are bored, when you leave the room, hide something in your sweatshirt, like your DS or something.
- If your parents have confiscated your computer, and you want to go online, use your DSi or your iPod touch, if they haven't also confiscated them.If you have nothing else, use your cell phone, if you have WiFi and it hasn't been requisitioned.

Warnings
- Don't use Facebook if you have your parents as friends, or they will find out.
- If you get caught sneaking out while you're grounded, you'll make things a lot worse.Be careful.
- If they notice that you are lying when they ask you something like:“Did you use your cell phone while we were away?”, you will be punished even more harshly.
- If you were caught, you might say:"Well, at least I didn't leave the house."
- Getting caught could mean being grounded for even longer, but this time they'll seize a lot more stuff, including CDs and other things you might have been spending the time with.
