Chiara Gusmeroli and Matteo De Zaiacomo, on a mission for CAI, have opened a new route to the summit of Sckem Braq, in the Nangma Valley:hindered by bad weather and two landslides, they succeeded in the undertaking

BOLOGNA – Chiara Gusmeroli And Matteo De Zaiacomo they reached the summit this morning Sckem Braq, a mountain over 5,300 meters located in the Nangma Valley, in Karakorum (Pakistan), opening a new alpine style route on a wall 900 meters high. The route is made up of 26 shots, with difficulties up to 7a and A3.The expedition, supported by Italian Alpine Club, saw the two climbers make a first attempt to climb the route last Saturday 17 August, covering the first 600 metres. The arrival of bad weather prevented the two from climbing the last 300 meters and reaching the top.Chiara Gusmeroli and Matteo de Zaiacomo, according to the Italian Alpine Club, descended to Base Camp without leaving fixed ropes and waited for the rain to stop to finish the route.

We are super tired but happy“, says De Zaiacomo, mountaineer and president of the Ragni di Lecco from Pakistan.“Luck was also on our side:we have in fact dodged two landslides in a matter of hours, one of which completely destroyed our tent. Now we are at Base Camp and we are organizing ourselves for return trek to Skardu, where we will arrive tomorrow evening. We will be in Italy on September 1st."“We are really happy for Chiara and Matteo, who, thanks to their tenacity, managed to complete the route on an unclimbed face,” says Luca Passini, vice-president of Ragni di Lecco.“Now the boys are at Base Camp, and we too are finally calm and relaxed, as well as extremely satisfied”.
