MILAN – Reiterate “the central role of education" to achieve the objectives indicated by the Constitution and updated by the 2030 Agenda.It is the goal of new working group of the Italian Alpine Club "Cai-Scuola", towards the start of the school year, also in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
“The good practices of the CAI, with experiences in the environment, on the paths, in the refuges and in the workshops, favor better academic learning", stated Giacomo Benedetti, general vice president with responsibility for Cai-Scuola, adding:“We are interested in implementing dialogue with the school, of every order and degree, to promote knowledge and conscious, responsible and sustainable use of the environment in general and of the mountains in particular".
In concrete terms, various initiatives will be developed until December. From 4 to 9 September in Valle di Primiero 50 teachers from all over Italy will participate in the 67th National Course for Teachers “Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site – A tale of landscapes, men and rocks”, which includes face-to-face meetings and hiking activities, with an overnight stay at the Rosetta refuge at 2,570 meters above sea level, in the Paneveggio – Pale di San Martino natural park.
Projects will also begin in September “Sustainable mountain tourism in a school context”, created this year by the sections of the Italian Alpine Club in collaboration with schools of all levels (supported by the central CAI with a fund of 100,000 euros).The initiatives involve 70 schools from 14 regions and focus on sustainable mobility, Natura 2000 network and system of national and regional protected areas.On September 16th, “Strade Maestre” will begin in Orvieto, an educational project supported by the CAI based on a long and slow journey by seven high school girls and boys aged between 17 and 18, accompanied by three teachers:they will walk over a thousand kilometers across Italy, until June 2025.October will instead see, from the 7th to the 13th, the 2024 edition of the Sentiero Italia CAI per la Scuola Week, with hundreds of pupils and teachers who will follow a section of the hiking itinerary that unites all the Italian regions, including the islands, through the ridge Apennines and the Alps.
From 9 to 13 October, the last training course for teachers of 2024 will be held in Fiuggi, entitled "The Middle Ages in Ciociaria - A journey through history through woods, villages and abbeys", with thematic insights into natural environments and mysticism. The final phase of "Energy - Acting at school for the environment" is also scheduled for October, which also includes the CAI among its promoters, with the aim of promoting actions, behaviors and forms of active participation in young people aimed at protecting the environment. On November 30th and December 1st, in Alessandria, the CAI is organizing the Youth Forum, two days of reflection and in-depth analysis on the theme of "mountains and future generations".The initiatives will end on 11 December, International Mountain Day, a summary and projection of Cai-Scuola actions, between contemporaneity and the future.
