  • The startup barbecue is an event organized like a speed date;except that those who have quick dates are possible partners not for life but for business.
  • The one organized by LifeGate Way in partnership with Hearts & Science will be held in the setting of Villa Futura, on 23 and 24 September at Villa Aida in Milan.
  • The theme of this edition is "Let's take back the internet!" and revolves around digital education issues.

The Italian panorama of startups it is increasingly flourishing and represents a significant factor of confidence in the future.A future that is increasingly uncertain, but also increasingly digital And dehumanized. The Internet, with all its derivatives, has betrayed its original promise of democracy and freedom:the business models that have proliferated mostly aim at the mere automation of processes or their extreme simplification, taking away thehuman actor the central role it should have in society. All business ideas that aim to make the web a more civilized and, above all, aware place are therefore welcome. For this reason the fourth edition of Future Villa will focus on enhancing those startups and those new businesses aimed at educating Italians on central issues for living the web correctly, clarifying what is meant by fake news, deep fakes and the dopamine culture of social media for example. Also hosting the new edition of BBQ startup.

BBQ startup:the speed date mode that investors like

The BBQ startup it is an event organized by LifeGate Way, the startup incubator and accelerator of LifeGate, and the communications company Hearts & Science. It takes place in the context of Future Villa, an annual event that aims to connect startups and investors, but also to make people reflect innovation issues and growth in the digital sector, a sector that is increasingly present and crucial in our lives. The startups involved are active and committed to the issues ofdigital education:there are those who offer tools to unravel the intricacies of online finance, but also those who have developed apps to make social media safer and free from violence. All will have the opportunity to sit at a table with many investors to propose their business pitches in a way borrowed from the events of speed dating born in the United States, where you sit in front of a person and have a few minutes to impress before a signal warns you that it is time to change seats and sit in front of someone else.

“The speed dating formula for startups is a winning one, especially because both the investors and the startuppers are all very high level profiles,” he explains Omar Bertoni, CEO of LifeGate Way.“Our ambition is for it to become a fixed moment to talk about innovation and be on the one hand an opportunity to align on the macro trends of the moment and, on the other, a tool to put emerging realities in contact with investors and corporate partners. The goal is to bring out the best realities which gravitate towards a certain area of interest which, in this case is that ofedtech”.The issue of education for online life is extremely delicate, both from the point of view ofuse of digital as a possible educational source and with regard to all those areas of interest on which there is still a lot of digital ignorance, such as the financial part.“For this reason we have hired and involved a series of interesting startups: Math Legacy for example, it is an application that helps solve mathematical questions in an engaging and innovative way through an artificial intelligence and gamification tool. Starting Finance instead it is a financial education company that has created a community by launching a series of courses and boot camps dedicated to training in the financial and digital fields.Still in the educational field, Future has created post-school orientation paths to choose the most suitable university path.As regards education for life and coexistence online, it is a very interesting reality He who hates pays, a legal tech that fights online hatred thanks to artificial intelligence tools that automatically respond to some comments and can also trigger warnings automatically where they are extremely offensive.Furthermore, this tool cleans the feeds:therefore a person who is the victim of insults and negative comments is also helped by the fact that these are immediately removed”, concludes Bertoni.

Digital education:why bring the internet back to a free and democratic place

From the beginning of the 2000s to today, the internet, in particular with apps and social media, has changed our lives:in some cases for the better, in others for the worse. What is certain is that, however nostalgic one may be towards aanalog existence, it will not be possible to go back and, therefore, it is necessary to invest more and more in digital training and education. It is in this spirit that the theme of the 2024 edition of was chosen Future Villa: “Let's take back the internet!”.“Villa Futura is an event that we at Hearts & Science conceived in 2020 with the aim of placing relevant topics at the center of the attention of the advertising and communication sector that could fuel a proactive and future-oriented conversation”, intervenes Emanuele Giraldi, managing director of Hearts & Science.“The idea from which it all started was to bring to Italy a format popular in the United States, which is to bring to the table a series of investors who always have little time but a great desire to be updated on the latest news, and have them meet with a group of selected startups. The filter, the common element of these selected startups, is the topic that is chosen as the main theme, in this case edtech. In this logic there has been an evolution over time:we talked about intelligence artificial in 2021, when few were still debating this topic, in 2022 we have demonstrated that the world of gaming is a much more inclusive place than you might imagine, while last year we demonstrated thatadvanced age it is not at the rear of the digital world, on the contrary, the over 50 age group weighs heavily in terms of e-commerce compared to previous generations".

What we live in is a reality aimed towards the future and that of the maturity ofdigital education it is an increasingly important and radical theme. It therefore finds its own organizing logic business moments oriented towards this.“In the 1990s the early ideologues of the internet described it as an open, inclusive, free place, a meeting place for supply and demand and a business accelerator:this has actually happened, in the last 40 years digital has revolutionized the world. In many ways for the good, creating a lot of value. Now, however, the digital world is proving to have brought with it a whole series of negative externalities which risk completely nullifying the benefits it has brought to society. These negative externalities are manifesting themselves quite pronouncedly today, because 15 years have passed since the advent of the first social networks or the first smartphones. The beliefs regarding the potential of this instrument are still very much alive, but the first doubts and fears regarding the healthiness of the medium, the fake news, on the cyberbullying or ontechnological evolution which risks prevailing over the human one.All issues that we have addressed with research on a sample of a thousand Italian families:the result is that in our country there is a strong need to restore the state of health of the medium, which passes through digital education itself, both of parents and children".
